What does Fenix 8 / Tactix 8 Need To Have To Make You Upgrade?

all the 965 talk got me thinking about the future of fenix/tactix and what it would take to get me to upgrade. garmin has never disappointed me before and i don't expect them to in the future, but what to expect? for me it would be a pretty short list. i just need a new sensor. if there's not a new optical sensor with improved accuracy, i see no reason to upgrade as that is easily the most important aspect of the watch. ecg would be nice, i'd prefer to NOT have amoled (although battery with mips is nowhere near what garmin promises) and i don't really need wireless charging either (and it's WILDLY inefficient). i'd love to see better solar charging (better efficiency from the panels) or maybe something radical like flexible panels on the watch band. for tactix i'd like to see something over the top like emp-resistance. in the end though it would come down to elevate 5...

  • Integrated diving and freediving (not necessarily air integration)

64GB option for full worldwide maps

Other than that it's mostly software features I'd like, and most of those are on Connect. The strength/cardio workouts are very poor right now from an interface perspective and I'd like to see this improve with interactive muscle based selection of exercises so I don't have to find one in 400 without first knowing the name. I'd like to be able to record more health stats like blood pressure into Connect, and I'd like more third party integration with companies like Withings to really let Connect be the centre of my fitness world, and by extension my watch.

Finally, I'd like to see replication and backup of all the things, not just a selection. I should be able to wear whichever watch I like and have body battery and training readiness just work accross all devices with all my settings replicating.

Finally finally I still want activity specific units. Been asking since Fenix 2 how hard could it be?

  • I'd really like to be able to reply to messages while running.  Even simple responses would be good like "I'm running - will reply soon."  I'm on iOS.

  • I would think that Apple would put a stop to that. Because it works on Android

  • F8X
Blood Glucose Level, Solar but should not block Transflective Display (Gorilla not Sapphire?), Answering Calls, stronger colors / better readable

  • This isn't something that Garmin have any control over unfortunately. Apple just won't allow any 3rd party wearable to send message on iOS

    • Bigger screen (less bezel)
    • Something that will sort out very poor visibility with sapphire screen (gorilla glass is much better in this case)
    • Mic and speaker for Google commands.

    Nothing more to be honest:)

  • So, actually you want a Forerunner 965 with a mic and speaker? Wink

  • 1. Unlimited battery life in Battery Saver mode for SOLAR models (of course) under same or better conditions as in F7.

    2. Option for BIGGER fonts (many people over 50 are active hikers).

    3. Dual layer screen (LCD for better battery saving + AMOLED/MIP for activity/other usage).

    4. Magnetic charger.

  • Dual layer screen (LCD for better battery saving + AMOLED/MIP for activity/other usage).

MIP is LCD. MIP adds some optimization on top of LCD to improve the display update efficiency when only part of the pixels need to be changed.

  • I want MIP, Gorilla Glass, flashlight in 47mm please
