What does Fenix 8 / Tactix 8 Need To Have To Make You Upgrade?

all the 965 talk got me thinking about the future of fenix/tactix and what it would take to get me to upgrade. garmin has never disappointed me before and i don't expect them to in the future, but what to expect? for me it would be a pretty short list. i just need a new sensor. if there's not a new optical sensor with improved accuracy, i see no reason to upgrade as that is easily the most important aspect of the watch. ecg would be nice, i'd prefer to NOT have amoled (although battery with mips is nowhere near what garmin promises) and i don't really need wireless charging either (and it's WILDLY inefficient). i'd love to see better solar charging (better efficiency from the panels) or maybe something radical like flexible panels on the watch band. for tactix i'd like to see something over the top like emp-resistance. in the end though it would come down to elevate 5...

    I hope there will be improvements on the display. Either:

    1 - Possibility to chose between MIP (longer battery life) or AMOLED display (shorter battery life) assuming that all high end Garmin watches will have the 1.4" display of 965.

    2 - 1.4" MIP with higher resolution and color depth

    3 - 1.5" MIP display

    4 - Both 2 and 3, or even an AMOLED display of 1.5".

    Additionally, 64 Gb of storage would be welcome.

    It is important to me that the watch learns to correctly distinguish sleep times. The other manufacturers have no problem with this, and only Garmin has to specify the window in which the monitoring is activated, and if you decide to sleep in at lunchtime, for example, this is not taken into account in any way.

    More use of the NFC Hardware:

    - storing NFC membership cards on the watch

    - using NFC tags to immediately start pre defined activity recordings by simply holding the watch against for example a tag on your bike to start a biking activity.

    1. Bugs fixed and features working as they should - this goes without saying, but it seems situation is getting worse instead of improving

    2. Buttons redesigned and fixed - too many users experienced issues with buttons

    3. Fenix line should have better hardware features than Forerunner 955 (in 2022, 955 had better GPS and twice as much storage than Fenix 7).

    Software:

    1. New climb pro
    2. 8 data fields
    3. Garmin Connect refresh

    I wish:

    1. Microphone and speaker

    Battery:

    7-8d always on

    20-25d smartwatch

    GPS: 50h

    All satellites: 40h

    All+dual: 25-35

    Tell me about that! Last weekend I had a trail run in Grand Canyon, and almost none of the navigation features worked correctly. Everything that could go wrong went wrong on my run:

    - Up Ahead didn't work - I had multiple custom course points that didn't show up

    - Elevation profile glitched badly making it completely unusable (a known issue)

    - Navigation course repeatedly  went off-course and back on-course (a well known issue which has nothing to do with the GPS accuracy).

    - Back to start navigation failed to show turn notifications

    - Back to start navigation also had elevation profile that didn't work correctly

    - Back to start navigation had significant issues with remaining distance and elevation gain accuracy

    - Climb Pro glitched

    Basically the only thing that worked correctly was showing my position on top of the course track.
