What does Fenix 8 / Tactix 8 Need To Have To Make You Upgrade?

all the 965 talk got me thinking about the future of fenix/tactix and what it would take to get me to upgrade. garmin has never disappointed me before and i don't expect them to in the future, but what to expect? for me it would be a pretty short list. i just need a new sensor. if there's not a new optical sensor with improved accuracy, i see no reason to upgrade as that is easily the most important aspect of the watch. ecg would be nice, i'd prefer to NOT have amoled (although battery with mips is nowhere near what garmin promises) and i don't really need wireless charging either (and it's WILDLY inefficient). i'd love to see better solar charging (better efficiency from the panels) or maybe something radical like flexible panels on the watch band. for tactix i'd like to see something over the top like emp-resistance. in the end though it would come down to elevate 5...

  • The most significant enhancement would be the inclusion of a data link. As I frequently run in remote locations, having a phone is essential in case of emergencies, such as a potential ankle injury. However, carrying a phone during runs is inconvenient. To address this, I rely on my Apple Watch Ultra, using it solely for emergency purposes. During races, I wear both my Fenix on my left wrist and the Apple Watch on my right, emphasizing the necessity for connectivity in today's context.

  • I would appreciate if Garmin added blood/glucose monitor.

    Ekg monitor.

LTE phone call usage/text message response capability.

and Satélite/ SOS capability like ok the Garmin Intech

... and InReach sized battery to power these features.

  • Indeed. If you look at the battery size of a Garmin mini2 or messenger, with the current status of development/technic, we won’t see the iR thing in a wearable soon (I rearly would  like to have that, tooWink) or you would be able to use a wearable only maybe 3 hrs with iR technology.

  • I’ve owned Fenix watches since the 3HR so have a lot of history/memories with them, both sporting and personal.

I currently own a 7x pro and personally I still prefer the mips display over an amoled, but amoled is clearly the way things are going. So for me I would like to see the following from the next gen -

    • an amoled Fenix (appreciate this is currently the Epix but I would want the Fenix branding).
    • garmin has done an amazing job with battery life on the Epix but I would want to see this extended further still, especially in AoD mode.
    • Perhaps more screen and slightly less bezel.
    • I think I’ll be going 47mm next time around so improved battery in that form factor.
    • 24hr markers on the bezel like the Tactix.
    • improved water and dust resistance, especially for the buttons.
    • Perhaps a thinner case.

Having reread my list I’m not asking for much there Grinning

  • So a tactix AMOLED with Fenix branding. Need more screen, just go bigger… you have the smallest of the Fenix if you are going “up” to a 47.

  • I didn’t say going ‘up’, I have the 51mm and will be going to the 47mm next time. Only just realised that they’ve done a Tactix amoled but as I said I would prefer the Fenix branding + the smaller size.

  • But you want the features of the tactix so basically you want a tactix at a cheaper price, got it.
