What does Fenix 8 / Tactix 8 Need To Have To Make You Upgrade?

all the 965 talk got me thinking about the future of fenix/tactix and what it would take to get me to upgrade. garmin has never disappointed me before and i don't expect them to in the future, but what to expect? for me it would be a pretty short list. i just need a new sensor. if there's not a new optical sensor with improved accuracy, i see no reason to upgrade as that is easily the most important aspect of the watch. ecg would be nice, i'd prefer to NOT have amoled (although battery with mips is nowhere near what garmin promises) and i don't really need wireless charging either (and it's WILDLY inefficient). i'd love to see better solar charging (better efficiency from the panels) or maybe something radical like flexible panels on the watch band. for tactix i'd like to see something over the top like emp-resistance. in the end though it would come down to elevate 5...

  • A bigger LAP/BACK button would be nice!

  • A bigger LAP/BACK button would be nice!

  • It would need to have:

    Adjustable fonts,

    Ability to compose texts (given that it has a touch screen now, this shouldn't be such a leap}

Increased screen clarity. This really reduced in 7.

8s and 8 should have same functions as 8x for me to purchase it. So far, only the 7 pro series has achieved this uniformity. It is an important step as imo, putting all of the bells and whistles only on the biggest watch (mostly worn by men), could possibly be seen as secondary discrimination against female customers who could make good use of the functions but are denied them because of their biology.

Hmm, my girlfriend owns the 7s sapphire solar (since a year), and has (except the flashlight) all the features that the 7x has.

  • Exactly, I'm talking about the flashlight. So yes, Im talking about your girlfriend's watch too!  Your gf might be fine without it. You might think she's satisfied, and that's fine if she is. However, many women might have wanted that flashlight feature too. After spending big bucks for a high end watch, it seems unfair that men are most likely to get the premium/standout features.

Traditionally the largest watch (for largest wrists) always has extra features. We need to strive to break that tradition because it could be construed as secondary discrimination.

And before someone says it, yes, women aren't banned from buying the larger one, but on most women, it doesn't fit, is cumbersome to wear and looks hideous.

The new Pro models all have the flashlight. Therefore, we can assume that it has become standard from now on.

Why not earlier with the S models? Just a guess. The space has not been sufficient from a purely technical point of view so far. The possibilities of SMD production are accelerating rapidly. I simply assume that at the time of the market launch of the 7 series, Garmin was not yet technically capable of integrating the flashlight into the small S housing.

is it also discriminatory if the small S series does not have as long a battery life as the larger watches ? I think it should be clear to everyone here that a small case simply does not fit as much. Sure, Garmin could have made the battery in the s-series even smaller. Then there would certainly have been room for the flashlight at the time of launch. But then there would have been complaints about the battery life.

  • Hi , what do you think about Garmin's policy? Have they already released the Tactix watches with AMOLED screens, and do you believe that over time, the Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 models will also transition to the AMOLED screen lineup?"

  • That would not make sense to me. Fenix with Amoled = Epix

  • A seemingly endless thread and in the end everyone is disappointed.

  • Convergence of things already on other Garmin watches:

    • magnetic charger as an option (still with a flat-contact clip for fastest charging and data - just like the Vivomove Trend)
    • speaker and mic for calls, as on Venu 3
    • LTE (at least as an option)
    • Transreflective, non-AMOLED display
    • bonus: SCUBA certified w/depth sensor

Lacking all of those, I'll just stick with the Fenix 7X until all the features converge.
