What does Fenix 8 / Tactix 8 Need To Have To Make You Upgrade?

all the 965 talk got me thinking about the future of fenix/tactix and what it would take to get me to upgrade. garmin has never disappointed me before and i don't expect them to in the future, but what to expect? for me it would be a pretty short list. i just need a new sensor. if there's not a new optical sensor with improved accuracy, i see no reason to upgrade as that is easily the most important aspect of the watch. ecg would be nice, i'd prefer to NOT have amoled (although battery with mips is nowhere near what garmin promises) and i don't really need wireless charging either (and it's WILDLY inefficient). i'd love to see better solar charging (better efficiency from the panels) or maybe something radical like flexible panels on the watch band. for tactix i'd like to see something over the top like emp-resistance. in the end though it would come down to elevate 5...

  • Pro version are there, we can expect a new Generation in approx 2 years if we take into account the standard version (not HR, Plus or Pro upgrade)

  • Next year, model 7 got probably delayed by covid.

  • - Even better screen. More specifically, I'd like it to look better at night when using the backlight.

    -Higher resolution screen, more colors.

    - The ability to actually charge in sunlight, not just keep the battery from draining.

  • Yeah i think we will definitely see the 8 next year alright, I was thinking maybe August or September but hard to know. Hope they have some good new features planned for it.

  • I just want the basic functions to work, every update on the 7 makes the heart rate more and more inaccurate.  I would love to be able to use third party sleep tracking too since that's never worked on the 7

  • Nap tracking ffs. All those cool features are completely useless for people with split sleep sessions.

  • Fully agree. It seems that basic functions get disregarded in effort to cram more festures that can be marketed, but in essence all those features fail if basic functions are not working reliably. Issues with HR measurements are often reported but no response from Garmin. Whether  Fenix 8 or any other watch, basic funcions should be up to the task at all times.

    1. quality over quantity - less bugs, remove old bugs and issues, improve UX and GUI
    2. smaller bevels
    3. be less run-centric, take more other activities into account
    4. take into account that training is not only about heart rate...
  • I’d prefer fewer bugs rather than less Sunglasses

Agree with moving the focus away from just or mostly run as an activity. I never run anywhere, I only really use my Fenix 7X Solar to track walks. I use an Edge 840 Solar on the bike and a Montana 700 or GPSMAP 67 on the sea. Happy with any improvements to screen clarity, but no AMOLED for me. Too garish & bright in the outdoors for my taste.

  • Fenix 8 should have

    • Altitude sickness Alarm
    • Dive depth gauge
    • more memory
    • GPS SOS that does not require phone
