Back button & light button not working

So this happened immediately after a couple of surf sessions. I've had no issues until I went surfing.

Now the back button doesn't work at all, and the light button only works for a quick click, it doesn't work when I hold it down to access the menu.

I've rinsed it with fresh water a few times, and then soaked it for 10 minutes last night. Then soaked it again for 20 minutes today. But it's still having issues, and really only seems to get worse each time I try something.

Its also doing this thing where it randomly vibrates just a little bit, like when you scroll the menu using the touching screen.

What can I do to sort this out?

  • How does the global warranty work then?

The country you live in will determine your options. There are approximately 70 countries and we have a direct Garmin presence in most of them to provide product support and warranty support. In a handful of countries, there is a vendor. Some vendors will only work with those that bought the watch directly through them.

There are 3 regional Garmin headquarters. Between them, they cover warranty exchanges when needed worldwide.

    - Our UK HQ covers the Middle East.

    - Our USA HQ covers North and South America.

    - Our Taiwan HQ covers SE Asia.

Based on the region you are in, you will reach out to UK Product Support. FYI - there will be costs due to custom fees and taxes that your country will charge you when your warranty replacement watch enters your country to you.

    UK Product Support

  • Chris, I did engage with Garmin Europe (based in the UK) 3 times already and each time was goven a different answer. Today I was told to deal with a local vendor in Israel and “take up this issue with them”. The vendor charges 80$ upfront to look at the watch and then offer a quote for repair. Can you repair physically faulty buttons? Doubt it. Do I want a repaired and tinkered with watch - doubt it too. Mind you, I have only used the device since Aug 2022 and am a long term Garmin customer. First time I ask for support in the last decade and it is not the support I was hoping for. There is def room for improvement there.

100% agreed. I am sorry your issue has not been properly addressed. I am sending you a direct PM to work with you further. Please see the top right corner when you are signed into our forums.

  • Ive got the same issue the two first time I went surfing with 2 new Fenix 7 sapphire solar. Waiting my third one as Garmin replace it.

to my mind it’s not a rare issue and I’m relay wondering if the watch have been test in real surfing condition

  • I have had a similar problem (middle button died).
Sent it back to Garmin, got a refurbished trash and after 2 weeks I have experienced the same problem.
I am waiting the 3rd refurbished trash. Very frustrating. I will keep you guys informed.

    Model: Solar Sapphire.

  • New fenix 7 sapphire solar received, the 3nd one ! As previously first surf session > wathc HS. Butons are inoperational. Hard reset done and now looping on default setting.. Very disapointed.

  • This issue with buttons "dying" on Garmin watches is not limited to the Fenix, or to surfers; I'm on my 3rd Epix 2 replacement due to the same problem (back and light buttons stopped working all of a sudden and watch vibrating randomly prior to that happening; then stuck in infinite loop trying to reset the watch). My 3rd Epix started vibrating yesterday as if the "Menu/Up" button had been pressed (the screen would go to the Menu a couple times) and then the button stopped working altogether. Waiting a few days to see if it fixes itself before trying to reset the watch (last option given the "infinite loop" issue). It has to be some sort of software issue; Garmin really needs to address this...

  • OK can you please keep me posted. I'm alos on my third and Garmin support told me that a chief will call me to find a solution but I didn't receive any call. I will call them today to find a solution, I'm asking to be refound or to upgrade to epix 2 but as I raed you this will be the same.

  • Well, I reset the watch and now it won't pair with my phone. Also, I had problems entering my profile details when setting up the watch after the reset (when entering height, weight, etc., the numbers would scroll up constantly and wouldn't let me enter the actual details). The Menu/Up button is still unresponsive after the soft and hard resets.

I contacted Garmin customer support and asked for a refund. I'm done with Garmin smartwatches...

  • I had garmin and I will be refound. I will send them the inoperationnal third watch!

i will change the brand for sure
