Back button & light button not working

So this happened immediately after a couple of surf sessions. I've had no issues until I went surfing.

Now the back button doesn't work at all, and the light button only works for a quick click, it doesn't work when I hold it down to access the menu.

I've rinsed it with fresh water a few times, and then soaked it for 10 minutes last night. Then soaked it again for 20 minutes today. But it's still having issues, and really only seems to get worse each time I try something.

Its also doing this thing where it randomly vibrates just a little bit, like when you scroll the menu using the touching screen.

What can I do to sort this out?

  • Do a hard shutdown first, then a hard reset (factory reset), then if neither works reach out to customer support and kindly ask for a replacement.

  • Yeah, I shut it down and restarted it once. Now I can't access the power button on my watch anymore.

I'll try to factory reset it though

  • Can I hard reset it from Garmin Express? I can't seem to figure out how to do it from my phone, or from garmin express. And I can't access the menu on the watch itself because the buttons aren't working properly.

    UGggg

  • Ok, i managed to get to the hard reset button. I hit that, it looks like it reset, but now the screen says:

    "Reset default settings?"

With two options, Yes or No.

I click Yes, it restarts, and goes back to the "Reset default settings?" screen.

If I click, No it goes to another screen for half a second and then goes back to the "Reset default settings?" screen.

  • Contact Garmin & they will replace it. Same happened to mine a few months ago & they exchanged it for a new one free of charge.

  • Yeah, I contacted them and I'll send it back in.

But this happened right after surfing a couple of times, so I'm a bit worried about surfing with it after the warranty expires

  • I am sorry you had an issue. Your Fenix 7 series watch is rated to Surf. The bad luck with your watch was likely a rare issue with the seals that keep the water out. It can happen but it is one of the most rare issues to happen. The Fenix series is frequently in the water whether pool swimming, fresh water or ocean swimming, surfing, etc. Especially for the triathletes using the Fenix series.

The Fenix 7 series water rating of 10ATM is explained in detail in this definition chart.

  • Exactly the same thing just happened to me today! I have the watch from August 2022 and do not surf or swim with it!

  • I am sorry you have an issue. Please reach out to Outdoor Product Support to warranty replace your watch.

  • Well, I did. But spoiler alert - if you buy your Garmin watch on one country but then move to live in a different country, then your international warranty is worth nothing. The dealer in my current location refused to deal with the case and advised to send it back where I bought it, which is rather difficult. And this is after I reached out to Garmin Europe and a replacement order has been created.  How does the global warranty work then?
