How do we get the weather forecast accurate, because I bought the watch for hiking so a accurate weather forecast is essential

Accurate weather forecast needed

  • Yes, Maps4Garmin is in the IQ Store.   That's actually a good question.  I honestly don't know where Garmin gets location info for the forecast, and since it doesn't show the name of the site it's retrieving it from, it could certainly be that I'm not getting forecasts that are as local as I am thinking.  That's a scary thought, lol.  At least the radar map doesn't lie.

  • I should have thought my reply through better.  I don't have this issue when I'm out in the wilderness, since the IP is from the nearest cell tower.  At home, I'm on WIFI all the time, and our ISP is through T-Mobile Home Internet.  The IP blocks they assign are in Massachusetts.  So the weather location issue only really affects me when at home.  I generally use a weather app on my phone when planning my day though, and that always shows GPS location for me.

  • Thanks I have just down loaded one and it says no API code.  What is that and how do I get one ? Thanks

Typically in order to use any OpenWeather based app, you need to have you own API key which you then enter into the settings of the OpenWeather app or widget you are using.

You can sign up for a free one.

  • I have a lot of my activity types set to record the temperature, and it is ALWAYS off. It was 32 degrees yesterday and my hiking activity said the average was 63. Will the activities get the temperature info from a new weather app if I install one? It would be nice if this was accurate.

  • The activities get the temperature from the sensor built into the watch (because this is needed for barometer calibration). This sensor is influenced by your body temperature and only accurate if you dont wear your watch.

The other alternative if you do want accurate ambient temperature is to get an external sensor such as the Tempe.
