Fenix 7 sapphire solar - v9.36/v9.37 - Restarts During Activity

i now had the problem of restart(s) during my last 2 runs, which resulted in not getting the run synced via mobile app then (but finally back home after vacation it worked via Garmin Express)

but still i miss some data on that days and its super annoying when the watch restarts during a run and i do not immediately see that and the run is then paused after the restart.
never had that issue before - i've just updated to 9.33 around a week before my vacation and also did runs with that firmware already before and didn't have that issue.

2nd last run:
watch restarted 3 times on a ~10k run (~1hour)
still missing data in the timeline, but all steps there, although it says just 16k in the graph - see screenshot.

latest run:
no steps data and even missing steps of the time during the run. - see screenshot.

i found some posting about restarts also, but it's annoying and no solution for that?
i did biking for several hours and many kilometers, standup-paddling and others, without any issues - just when running i've that restart-issue.
for running my watch is useless at the moment

i already wrote an email to local garmin support via their website - hopefully they have an idea or even better: a solution that my watch stops restarting during a run.

    I may be experiencing a similar issue with my Fenix 7s Saphire Solar. 

    My watch does not restart, but something appears to crash in the background causing the watch to get hung up.

    I notice the error usually the day after a work out because the workout won’t upload and my watch will stop tracking sleep.

    The HR monitor does not appear to be affected.

    After a restart of the watch the watch beeps and the activity that did not save correctly pops up asking me to save.

    I hit save and the watch starts up as it normally would and then functions properly.

    If I had to guess there appears to be an issue with one of the background processes that handles activities (e.g. a training app, sleep tracking app, etc.)

    This happens mostly at the same geographic location, and mostly after the map vanishes partly or in full, and during a running activity.

    After the workout with a crash and a restart, it does not sync with Garmin Connect. I must use Garmin Express to get it synced. 2-3 minutes of activity are missing.

    Garmin (Germany) Support is working on this for 40 days now, but no solution!

  • Today my watch Fenix 7x sapphire crashed after 2h during cycling activity, 9.36, no navigation, just regular activity i realized this much later. Sometimes for longer cycling activities I'm dual recording and canceling save on one device,  furtunatly edge 530 worked fine, but I had some issues later to sync activity, also crashed activity was synced to Garmin connect so I need to remove it. Any progres on that topic ? 

  • i had to provide a lot of data to Garmin Support and all that i got back is an RMA-Number to send in my watch to have it checked.
    So this is for sure not the solution and will not do that and stay without my watch for around 2 weeks :-(

    from what i read and can find in the internet and communities it looks like a software/map-issue to me. but so far no reaction/fix from Garmin Side :-(

  • It might be a good idea to write Garmin -Chris directly. To be clear, this error is happening to many users. I communicate with him, but so far no solution. I also think that it is a software error, or in the maps. Can I ask the state where it happens to you? Me personally in Slovakia
  • I'm located in Poland. It was 180km bike ride and it happened after about 2h as activity synced to Garmin connect was 70+ km. I was not using map screen during that activity. I just started activity and left it as I was using Edge 530 also. I'm afraid now that the same will happen during longer runs :/ I was not contacting Chris directly as it was more question about status of that. I do not have time to spend on debugging issues for Garmin and it was already reported by many users.   • for me it happened several times in croatia (istria) - always in the same area, but just when i was running. biking and others were working without issues.
    at home it's not happening at the moment. 

  • I received a replacement for my Fenix7s, but during the first activity with the new one, again the map vanishes, the watch software crashes and restarts twice - exactly while passing at the same geographic location like before with the original watch. Must be a software problem ... or a mistake in the map data. I am thinking about selling my Fenix on ebay. Enough is enough.

    I called Garmin Support Germany but they don't seem willing to help me. The only thing they told me was to ask the seller of the watch to take it back due to the legal warranty. However, since this is a software issue, this is easier said than done.
    And it came out that In the last 2 months Garmin Support Germany never opened a case at Garmin USA and never sent any data and problem description I supplied.
    What a disgrace! This was my last Garmin device! High prices, software full of bugs, horrible service.
  • For me this issue happened first time yesterday, I have Fenix 7X Sapphire from 3 months, but I updated it to 9.36 from 8.X few days ago. I was using Fenix 6 Sapphire before and I didn't have any issues like that. 

  • The map display error and crashes/restarts don't seem to happen if you remove the Garmin TopoMap from the device and install a free OSM map like the ones from http://frikart.no/garmin/ . I have installed and activated the Germany Topo Summer II map from them. Since then no problems at all.
