Storm alert and barometer chart

Hi all

The v9.x has brought for me at least, several dubious storm alerts. Pretty much I get one every single day. I have seen other posts regarding this one.

Moreover the barometer chart is messed up and spiky. I attach a photo of how it looks currently. Prior to the v9 I did not see such a chart and I am frequently checking it.

Anyone else with similar issue;

  • garmin reached out and confirmed that the Connect app is the culprit here and a fix will be provided. many thanks to for his help here and for pointing this issue to the appropriate team

  • Stair steps in baro chart are natural. Every time you sync your device, it updates the QNH (or QFF) pressure

which is not necessarily close to previous amount. therefore you see a step change.

  • Can you share with us where this information is documented? This is the 1st time I hear of this. Garmin itself has verified that there is an issue here and they will address it

  • Fully disagree with you. There is nothing natural about this, even with a "correction" from GCM.

  • My Brother! This info is from different sources and is a conclusion of my observations and experiments with Fenix 7XSS. Studies of Fluids dynamics in university, Meteology courses during pilot training for ultra-light aircrafts. I am also a paraglider tandem pilot and am engaged with weather forecasts almost every day. I have used flight instruments such as Flymaster GPS which has a nice user manual. You can find a lot of useful info in that. The manual of my Tissot T-Touch watch also taught me a lot. I can provide you web links if you don't find these easily.

I believe Garmin devices are from high engineering and science but there is a gap - in my opinion - between production and customer service. If only they had a more in depth manual with comprehensive information about device functions. In this forum I read examples of customers who had replacements but the issue remained. I think the company does this to respect the customer. Even after software updates some users still find the same issues. I think because we all need to improve the way we utilize these devices.

QNH stands for quantity at nil height. As you know the trend of air pressure changes shows us we will have an inclement or improved weather in near future. But this change must not be caused by elevation changes. so we need a reference point to measure barometric changes. this reference point is mean sea level. You may be in land far from sea but Garmin app (Like other companies and reference websites) shows you the pressure of your location if it had Zero altitude. In this way you can monitor air pressure changes which are not form altitude changes. QFF I think is similar to QNH but the mathematical model to obtain the pressure as a function of altitude and temperature is different.

You can find beautiful info in the followings:

  • I sent a relatively long post in reply to Bellostom. It didn't appear here!

My friend, It may be rare but is possible what we see in your chart. assume this scenario:

One uses lift but forgets to set the sensor mode from barometer to auto or altimeter. I meant 1 or 2 big changes in

several hours. Your's indicates 4 drops in 4 hours which is really strange. Could you provide more explanation about your

    activities during those hours?

  • There is no activity. Sitting stationary in my desk office having the watch connected with the phone.

If I disconnect the phone connection and leave it, everything is OK, as I have posted here.

Definitely nothing ordinary about this for sure

  • I'm sorry, I appreciate your lengthy reply above, and I understand what you're saying… but I still completely disagree with you. Everything being discussed in this thread is NOT normal barometric behavior when stationary. Prior to v9.33, the barometric chart never had big stairsteps like this (to my knowledge) and the Storm Alert certainly didn't get triggered by those massive instant changes 2-3x a day.

My "activities" were sitting at my desk working.

  • The latest alpha version 10.37 has resolved both the storm alert issue and the baro chart. It is the 3rd day now, that everything is working as it should
