Battery Drain with 9.33 Simplified

I thought I'd try something just to gather some data.   There might be some question as to whether the battery drain issue, or issues, are related to Android,  Strava,  or something else.   It appears that the Android app was updated at near the same time as the 9.33.  So for S&Gs, let's try this.

1 - list your battery drain in % / 24 hrs

2 - your phone's OS

3 - Are you using Strava

4 - are you using Strava Segments

5 - have you tried the factory reset

6 - 3rd party or built-in watch face

  • I thought this was a fenix 7 series thread...

  • 1 - 10% drain / 24 hrs in gesture mode (used to be 13-15% before watch reset)

    2 - Android 12 (Samsung)

    3 - Yes

    4 - No

5 - Yes, only helped very slitghtly

    6 - 3rd party watch face (fenix)

  • 45%  in 24hrs

    Android

    Strava segments off

Factory reset and restoring default settings on the watch

    No 3rd party face

    All above did not help.

Then, I switched off the connection with the phone on the watch - it helps - it seems that watch is trying to sync continuously one after one - what is ridiculous. I observed this on GCM screen.

I do not know what guys from Garmin are doing. I was planning to change bike computer to Garmin but I think they cured me of the idea.

Nothing helped.... The I observed GCM and noticed that watch is syncing continuously. I switched connection to the phone in the watch - and the problem disappeared. I am switching it on several times a day. This is not good solution - I am using watch as a smartwatch too and now I cannot use it at it is.

The real question is where is Garmin - no response no update nothing. I am !@$@!#^$. was planning to change my bike computer to Garmin and they cured me of it.

  • I figured out the reason for my battery drain:

I found that my watch and Garmin connect mobile are constantly in sync. (every 5 minutes, via bluetooth).

In the settings of android I have disabled the work in the background Garmin connect mobile.

After that the big battery drain disappeared.

  • You forgot an important point: Type of Fenix7, 7S, 7or 7X makes a huge difference b/o battery size, so:

    0. T7BE equals 7XSS there

    1. approx 5% a day with HRV, HR, SPOx on all the time, Touchscreen off, if not needed (for handling reasons not for battery saving), WLAN off,Screen 10%, on for a minute when needed.

    2. Android, but doesn't matter. Almost NEVER connected for other reasons, seems to be a game changer for Battery, BT always off too

    3. No

    4. No

    5. Did it in advance just in case before update to 9.33 and immediately afterwards, not much to loose, since see #2., so it seemed the best idea

    6. Yes, with heavy live data (Phoenix V2, Alpha Zulu, Datalover)

Conclusion for me with same usage pattern as with 8.37: even oh so slight better than before.

PS: From post in another thread for convenience attached: Battery Graph gives you a more exact view what happens when you just change things (Faces, settings...), remember the time you did it and later see how exactly it affects the slope (even if negative ;-)) of your battery graph.

  • I found that my watch and Garmin connect mobile are constantly in sync. (every 5 minutes, via bluetooth).

Looking at the sync status in GC mobile (on the devices view), I see that my F7X appears to sync very frequently, perhaps every 10 seconds. That is while I am sitting completely still. I don't know whether that is normal but perhaps not.
