Up ahead screen absence

Hi Sam - one of the "pages" within the activity (run; trailrun; etc.) will show the up ahead details. Please, note that any courses (gpx) with waypoints (water; information;etc) created by other than Garmin Connect won't give you distance to next waypoint. This is a limitation of this feature currently. What I do is to create the course in Komoot ((better maps compared to Garmin (another limitation)) then import into Connect and assign waypoints before sending it to the watch.

I didn't see the screen at all, navigation wouldn't show the screen even when it was selected?..let alone distance to next unfortunately. 

I usually make courses with Plotaroute.com 

The course I tried today was made in connect but was made about three years ago.... maybe I should redo the courses I have? ... 

You need to make sure you've added some Course Points to the course in Garmin Connect.  I've gotten this to work in PAR, but is was hit/miss.

Yes, I do.  I have been able to get Up Ahead to work with Explore.  The technique to add Course Points is a bit different than GC, but it works.  There is a very lengthy thread about all things course creation with the 7 here: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-7-series/283397/course-creation#pifragment-1258=1&pifragment-1292=1

Yes GC seems to just have turn by turn sort of notifications, and explore seems to add waypoints to navigate too.....

I did have a good read through,thanks again... I  loaded explore, and it works like a charm, the mapping is better than it used to be,so it's possible to make a course with all the trails included now.

I can produce a working up ahead screen every time I've tried... by simply adding waypoints... Great. : -)

Glad it worked for you.  If I remember correctly, when using Explore to create your course, you won't get Turn-by-Turn alerts like the GC courses.  Just a heads up.

Thanks, yes I remember that.... I do like that waypoints show up on the map while zooming and panning... They show up as text on the map (I could write anything and the text will appear) as well as on navigation and the up ahead screen. 

I'd rather use Plotaroute so I'm going to experiment with that next... I might have to import it before adding waypoints to Garmin... but I'll try without first....
