the IRNSS has only L5 frequency , there is no L1... (the other is in S-Band but that is a totally different and higher band than the "normal" GNSS freqs, only very special and professional GNSS receivers…
That was a really bad decision on Garmin's side because in my opinion the multi-band was one of the most anticipated features
And those that wanted it could choose to buy it. Those…
Supposedly the same Airoha AG3335M chipset is used in both versions. At least I don't see another multi-GNSS Airoha chipset without L1+L5 support and with all other parameters the same as AG3335M.

So i think this AG3335MN chip is the reason why the normal F7 has L1 band limitation.
It is a product sheet from AVNET, as You see, the MN version is "worse" than the M.
Now it's clear. Thanks.
Yeah, you're absolutely right.
It is a product for specifically Indian market. So their main purpose is to support Indian satellites. So their priority is having that support.
I'm sure other Fenix'es has 3335MN too. But they have the multiband setting enabled in software or in a hardware register.
It's best to open yours and see what's sitting there.
You need more that a capable chip. Should have bought the 7X. You're crying now cause a newer watch has a feature yours doesn't and you feel ripped off. So what if they enable it if they can? Then the people who bought an even more expensive watch have a gripe

I'd be happy if Garmin did that even though I bought the sapphire version. That would drive the competition forward, and we all, as customers, will benefit from that. However I am unhappy that the multi-frequency wasn't available in the base model when I was deciding between the base model and the sapphire model. I wanted the base model for the better screen readability, but that pushed me to the more expensive sapphire model that I otherwise didn't have a need for and didn't want.
So the Garmin's marketing strategy worked in my case, but in expense of making me a bit less happy and potentially making me less loyal in the future.
Mine is Fenix 7X Solar and it has AG3335MN inside.

How do you know that?
Because I saw it. :)
