Fenix 7 Series - software version 8.15 - Public Beta

Hello Fēnix 7 and Epix customers,

We are now aware of a bug in the v8.15 update which can interfere with the tracking of stress and sleep data. Luckily, the tracking of this data will resume after a simple reboot of the watch (turning it off and turning it back on again.) If you have already installed the update, please perform this reboot of your watch to correct this problem.

If you would like to avoid this bug entirely, we recommend that you do not install the v8.15 update. If you have already installed this update, remember that you have the option to revert to the current public version of software, v7.35. Please note that backdating software will revert your watch to default settings.

We apologize for the inconvenience, please know that we are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The next public beta version is now available for your watches!

If you’ve participated in the Beta Program with previous Fēnix product lines, you’ll notice a few changes from how we have managed this in the past. And further down the line, we’ll have some additional improvements to the Beta Program (more on that later!) Notably, the fēnix 7/Epix watches use one single update file to update system software and peripheral updates (GPS version, Wireless version, etc.) So you no longer need to install multiple update files. Additionally, this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. (There will be more options for viewing change logs after we implement the additional improvements to our beta program.)

The links to download the software update are listed below. Select the link specific to your watch model: fēnix 7X, fēnix 7, or fēnix 7S. Please note that your computer will download a .zip file when you open this link.

  • This zip contains the software update and instructions for installation in the 'Read Me.txt' file. We have also provided a folder with the files necessary for backdating software, and instructions for this process if you choose to do so. Remember, backdating software will reset all settings.
  • Please note: the included secure_config.gcd file should also be installed to your watch. This file will enable a few "beta features." For example, it will provide you with the option to reboot your watch (turn off and automatically turn back on). It will also automatically generate some files if you encounter certain issues. In short, if you are using beta software, you should also always have this file installed: it will make your use of the watch easier, and make it easier for you to report issues in software.
  • Please email the Garmin Outdoor Quality Team if you find issues in software after installing this update: [email protected]

  • I think he's talking about vertical alignment of the battery data field. The battery icon doesn't align with the sunset and barometric trend icon. It's 2-3 px low. The 48d is 2-3 px below the 7:53 and 29.83.

  • Funny how someone would down vote me finding a problem..

The 6 inner data fields vibrate when pushed but don’t open up the widget (circled). The outer widgets on the watch face work fine.

  • I emailed about this, but I'll post it here as well. The watch faces are all inconsistent about whether they zero-pad the hour when set to 24-hour mode. They should all zero-pad the hour IMO, and they should definitely be consistent. The one in the bottom-left below even has the sunrise time without a leading zero and the main time with a leading zero.

    Watch faces in 24-hour mode

Regarding the alignment of the battery field, you can also see how it looks for me in the top-left below the time next to the weather field.

  • I think I know why but I don’t know for certain.

I believe it’s because it’s one widget that just shows three metrics/data fields instead of them being three separate widgets, if you get what I mean?

I’m on your side though, it is seriously annoying.

  • I think the field subdivided is the “mechanical” explanation for why they don’t work to open the corresponding widget. But if that is a limitation it should not accept the tap+hold gesture and respond with haptic feedback as though it did something. Or it should work to open the corresponding widget

It also responds with a haptic but does nothing with the date field. If that doesn’t connect to a widget then it shouldn’t act like it’s tappable.

  • We all have what we consider priorities for them to fix. Personally fixing it so that it records swimming is a much higher priority.

    But each to their own.

  • Yea everybody of course has their favorite activities that they want to work correctly.

But I think something general concerning all activities, that works on both previous model series and not on the new top model should be pretty high on the list.

  • More specifically the leading zero should be governed by the system time setting and having a leading 0 in military time mode but I think the main time format on some of those faces is purely aesthetic. I think they should match the system > time format but I think they don’t and that was just a design choice but it is inconsistent with the other time-based data fields that can be displayed along with the main time field.

In principal 12-hour and 24-hour time has no leading zero. Military time is always 4 digits and therefore has a leading zero and no : separator between hours and minutes.

I recall on the f5 there was a problem where the UTC data field would not respect the 24-hour and military time settings. It would just be in 12 hour time regardless. The data fields in watch faces should format themselves to match the system > time setting.

  • Military format will remove the hours and minutes separator in most places though, which isn't what some people will want. At least in the UK, it's usual to always use a leading zero in 24-hour format, and that's how every other device I have does it.

  • Still can't edit running track activity in Android Garmin connect app. The app crashes, I already sent crash logs month ago and nothing happened..
