I cannot receive text messages on my 7X Sapphire Solar. I checked all of my notification settings and they are correct. Settings are correct in Garmin Connect App. Any help?

I cannot receive text messages on my Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar.  I have watched YT videos, looked at forums, meticulously gone over the settings on the watch and the Connect app.  I don't see what can be causing the problem. I would appreciate help.  I have had the watch for one month and am about ready to send it back.

  • What phone do you have? And just to confirm - do you having notifications on your phone on as well?

  • I have the Samsung S10+.  Yes, notifications are turned on in the phone, Garmin Connect, and on the Fenix 7X.

  • I would uninstall Garmin Connect App, remove watch connection from phone Bluetooth menu and factory reset the watch - then Start again by installing GC and setting up new device.

Note: Garmin Connect will trigger the Bluetooth connection, you shouldn't just pair the watch to phone and install GC.

Once connected, the phone should then ask you to "Allow" permissions for Calendar, Notifications etc.

  • I have a similar issue with my iPhone 11 Pro Max.  Text messages were working, then nothing.  Was still getting emails phone call notifications but no texts.  I upgraded to iOS 15.4.1.  Had 7 texts come in and then they stopped showing on the watch.  Clearly some incompatibilities here.

  • Did you ever sort out this issue? I’m having the exact same problem with mine.

  • Ok, so I thought I was going mad too - I get WhatsApp messages, but not text. It's very annoying.

In essence it gives App notifications, but not Text notifications I think.

I'm running an iPhone 12 with iOS16.2 and I've had my 7S Sapphire Solar for mayyybe a month.

  • Make sure that the iPhone shows the text on the lock screen. (notifications/messages/show previews - always) That is the method Garmin can read the contents of the message.

  • Might be worth checking the permissions for the Garmin Connect app.  Long press on the Garmin Connect app icon and tap the "i" in the upper right.  In the permissions section, make sure that SMS is allowed.  It should have prompted you when you selected text message in the notifications settngs.  But, sometimes it may not.

  • Heya, I don't get an 'i' when I long press on the Garmin Connect app - only a few options like Share app, edit home screen, search connections, add weight, create manual activity, or activities. I find it super funny that I can get WhatsApp message alerts, but not SMS message alerts. So I'm wanting to find that permission section ASAP. I've run my marathon, months ahead of time, and this watch is now turning into an expensive paperweight.

  • You can also get there by going to settings -> apps -> scroll down to "connect" and click on it->  tap "permissions".   Make sure SMS is listed under allowed.  If it is in not allowed, just tap on it and select "allow".  If it already is, I am not sure what the issue is.
