Altimeter Overnight Calibration

Hello,

My altimeter is being calibrated every night but it´s being calibrated to the altitude in ground and not where I live, Floor 14th. If I manually calibrate it on ground and then go to my apartment, altitude is 55 meters and ground is 11 meters but during night it´s calibrating it to 11 meters. Is there anything I could do so overnight calibration works correct?

Thank you,

Best Regards.

Scroll to Auto Calibration and then again to Auto Calibration Nightly.

  • I'm not too sure about the watch calibrating to the phone location and not the watch either.

Here's a clip from the support page I linked in my previous post.  Ask yourself, what would be the purpose of the phone connection if it was still calibrating using the barometric altimeter on the watch?

"If paired, the Garmin Connect app uses location data from the phone and compares it to the DEM information of the watchband."

  • My fenix 7 is in Eco mode at night + Sleep mode. I see every night at 3am a change of 50m on altimeter. Is it because my Blutooth connection and my phone are not online?

  • I am not sure how the nightly calibration is working. The last 2 days, I have the phone connected to the watch and wifi on, on the phone. I have been travelling, so the altimeter was off . I expected Nightly calibration to do its job but the past 2 mornings, the elevation does not change, compared to when I went to bed.

I fiddled a bit with the watch logs (under Garmin\EVTLOGS directory) and found relevant entries. Below is today's log

The timestamps are in a weird format, since they do not match the actual time

In bold are the calibrations done from Saturday to Sunday and Sunday to Monday

    What  is your experience?

  • This night nightly calibration really messed up my altimeter (FW 20.50). I am staying at 1120m and it dropped to 770m around 1am. My wife’s watch stayed correct (Fw 19.20). Bluetooth was on at both.

  • I think you posted in the wrong forum. Those firmware versions are for Fenix 6 and this is the Fenix 7 forum. Fenix 7 is at 7.35

  • Last night I put my phone in airplane mode and slept with the altimeter at 507m.

Woke up today with the altimeter at 498m

Checked the logs and it seems that the watch calibrates the altimeter, even if there is no phone connection, which does not seem right based on the documentation

    04: D0 11 00 00   12:20:38.837 SNS_CAL   Baro Activity Start Cal: 507.841553
    05: D0 11 00 00   14:08:06.665 SNS_CAL   Baro Activity Start Cal: 507.841553
    06: D1 16 00 00   19:36:36.901 SNS_CAL   Baro Nightly Cal: 498.837433

Anyone from garmin care to shed some light on this? How is the watch calibrating the altimeter, without the phone being connected to the watch?
