Fenix 7x Saphire Solar - Compass Stops Working

Hi everyone,

My Fenix 7x Saphire Solar updated itself to version 7.24. After a few days i noticed the compass got stuck. I have to restart/hard restart the watch to get it working again for 1-2 days, then it gets stuck again. Does anyone else experience that? Never happende on 7.20.

  • Thank you so much for the link. I had no idea that this was an option.

  • So what’s the outcome here? A £1,200 watch (Tactix 7x Pro) that can’t even function as well as a £1 compass. Any movement of the pin changes the direction by more than +/-30degrees and if my watch goes near my phone it’ll change by over 180degrees. Surely Garmin need to fix this issue. Can’t see why anyone would continue to support Garmin if they can’t even sort this assumed simple issue. The comeback that if it’s off your wrist it’s not a problem is nonsense, it should still work as expected.

  • Has anyone had their pins replaced from garmin and resolved this issue?

  • It is normal compass behavior to change direction when you get near a magnet (e.g. your phone cover). That's not garmin's fault.
However, it is NOT normal compass behavior, that parts of the compass itself are magnetic. That makes the compass completely useless.
: How about supplying us with non-magnetic replacement pins? Can we please get an official statement on that? I've been waiting for forever to resolve this issue. Thanks.

  • supplying us with non-magnetic replacement pins

You are welcome to reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region. What is seen at the top of every page in this thread just beneath the original post, is our official response.

  • As recommended here, I contacted the official product support. The problem is said to be unknown there. I then received new pins. Unfortunately these do not fix the problem.

I will now contact support again.

I continue to be very disappointed with how Garmin is handling the feedback. For me it is incomprehensible that an error in a basic function of an outdoor watch is simply ignored and denied.

  • I returned my F7xSS because of this. For me its absolutely unacceptable. I returned it to the vendor and got my money back. Hope this hurts Garmin and they think about their product quality of their expensive watches.

  • I'll try to sell my Fenix 7 standard and buy a Forerunner 965, since I really didn't like Fenix 7: a problematic compass, they are heavy, such a watch is hard to wear 24/7

  • The compass problem is enough to return it to your vendor, because selling a watch with a broken compass could cause you problems with the buyer and in addition you loose money. But Garmin is in charge of it, so its their part to loose that money and get back the watch. Only my 2cents

  • Is the 965 compass known to work?  I haven't found a review where it's been given a reasonable test.  Maybe the compass on a Suunto or Polar will have reasonable quality?
