Fenix 7x Saphire Solar - Compass Stops Working

Hi everyone,

My Fenix 7x Saphire Solar updated itself to version 7.24. After a few days i noticed the compass got stuck. I have to restart/hard restart the watch to get it working again for 1-2 days, then it gets stuck again. Does anyone else experience that? Never happende on 7.20.

  • Yup, definitely an issue for me too. How can I trust a compass that changes +/-60 degrees depending on rotation of the pin and the band? Maybe our watches have hardware issue in addition to software issue? Who knows but at this point I hope there is solution.

  • A regular $10 compass shows the right direction than a compass on a $1,000 watch.)) I hope Garmin engineers will solve this problem.

  • Same issue with my fenix 7X sapphire. Please keep me informed when a solution is available

  • I have to say that I did not believe the pin interference on compass in despite of seen it in the video, but after testing in my own Garmin F7 Saphire Solar I have to confirm that in anyway that I can not explain, rotating the ping is one cause of compass interference. I'm not sure if this is the same that the compass being stuck honestly, for me it seems like two different issues, but of course, I'm not a Garmin programmer/engenieer to ensure it.

  • Yes, we don’t know if pin interference is a separate problem but I can’t think how it could be solved by software update.

  • I thought this pin thing is a joke until I tried myself. I must admit my watch shows the same behaviour. However, when I put the watch on the wrist the compass works fine - at least I noticed no issues.

  • It's because when the watch is on the wrist the pin and watch strap do not rotate. But if the interference is there who guarantees that what compass is showing is correct? And it might be correct today but tomorrow might be wrong.

  • I tried that spinning pin trick on the bottom pin, and the watch compass does exactly the same as the video showed. My watch is still within the returning window, I really think I should wait until they address this issue and then buy it since it's more likely a hardware defect.

  • And I tried the same test that it is shown in the video in a Garmin 935 I still have, and there is no trace of interference between the pin and the compass, you can do exactly the same test and the compass is not affected in any way, so it is not something related to all watches.

  • Yes, it's only affecting the new Fénix 7 series and Tactix Watches at this moment, it's possible the new design causing this. I tested it on my new Fénix 7 Sapphire Solar and Fénix 7X Sapphire Solar, they both are having the same issues.
