7X Solar battery life is ridiculous

With a number of issues I've had with the Fenix 7 lately, I thought I'd post something a bit more positive today.

My experience with the battery life on this watch has been absolutely insane. Absurd, even. I last charged it 6 days ago, last Tuesday morning. Right off the bat, I used quite bit of battery while I was going through all the settings, configuring my activities, etc, which took several hours and drained the battery down to 95% by that evening. But it's now Monday morning the following week, 6 days later, I've used around 2 hours of multiband GNSS and used the flashlight countless times, and my battery is at 82% (showing 23 days remaining) - more than my 6X had on a full charge!

I cannot imagine any scenario where I could ever possibly have to worry about the battery dying. And for that reason, I know I definitely picked the right watch for me. Looking forward to a summer of adventure with this watch! Hopefully the firmware stability issues get worked out before then ;)

  • Just as an FYI, smart recording does not use any less battery than 1-second recording. The only thing Smart Recording does, is reduce the file size for your activity recording by only recording the GPS points that the watch deems most relevant. Since activity file-size is a non-issue on the Fenix with 16-32 gigabytes of internal storage (and activity files being less than a few hundred kb each), there's no reason for anyone to use smart recording on the Fenix 7 (for some reason Garmin still insists on making Smart Recording the default setting - I suspect it's an attempt to minimize how much space people's activities take up on their servers)

  • I am amazed at the battery life.  I went from years wearing a Fenix 3HR that had terrible battery life and now have had the 7XSS for a week and am at 90% battery on day 6.  Of those 6 days, I have had only two days in the sun for an hour or so and got about 70k each day swimming outdoors.  But I haven't used GPS yet.

  • It's been 14 days now since I last had my watch plugged in. It's still showing 64% (20 days) of battery left Smiley And that's after recording another 3 hours of multiband GPS activity a couple days ago. This battery life is absurd Joy

  • hi, really impressive Wink

  • 12 Days since last charge for me when I first got the watch, 56 percent left 45 mins a day approx GPS use. Some LUX hours but not many.

  • That is impressive! Right now I am at 12 days and it says 42%. That is with 6h40m (of which 1 hour is with no Multiband) tracking, 3 health snapshots and 3 hours of indoor cardio. Hardly any sun.

It almost feels like I am loosing this who's-battery-will-last-the-longest competition Yum. Oh well, still nothing to complain about. Perhaps the next few discharges/weeks things have settled a bit.

  • I'm now on Day 15 and am at 50%, and I've had lots of recorded activities.  Great tip from another thread - change days left to percentage on the watch face:  Menu:  Power management:  Battery Percentage On and Battery Estimates Off.

  • I am on day 45 and I still have 93% battery life left. I have hiked for 1 hour per day and swam 16 lengths 4 times a week.
Hmmm,.....................maybe I need to keep the watch turned on to record an activity.

  • That can't be.... Day 45 and you are at 93%?  No way....  Is your watch ion the bright Arizona sun 3 hours a day?  I think on the solar threads here on this forum that no one has reported that kind of solar charging capability.  If what you say is true, the watch will never have to be plugged in.  Well -- maybe if you are on a 5-day treck and never turn off GPS.

  • I think you need to read more carefully.

"Hmmm,.....................maybe I need to keep the watch turned on to record an activity."

    bit of a joke. :-)
