Fenix 6 Series - 20.00 Public Release Candidate

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

Our next beta version for the Fenix 6 series is now available!

Please ensure that you are downloading the correct beta software for your specific device.

Instructions for installation are available below the change log on each of the above pages.

20.00 Change Log Notes:

  • Added ability to turn off recording an activity during a golf round.
  • Added an alert to notify user when battery is critically low during a music sync.
  • Added HRV Support from chest strap for Yoga and breathwork.
  • Added pop-up to Pulse Ox Measuring feature if the device detects too much movement and cannot get an accurate measurement.
  • Added support for new biking activity profiles: eBike, eMTB, Cyclocross, Gravel Bike, Bike Commute, Bike Tour, and Road Bike.
  • Added support for the HIIT activity profile and workouts.
  • Added support for the Pickleball profile.
  • Added support for the Padel profile.
  • Added support for the snowshoe activity profile.
  • Added support for the tennis activity profile.
  • Added new tips to indicate which activities support Incident detection.
  • Improved accuracy of Surf wave count algorithm.
  • Improved Explore Sync app waypoint load times.
  • Improved Lactate Threshold and Altitude Acclimation algorithms.
  • Improved measurement loading UI when taking an SpO2 measurement.
  • Update the altimeter’s auto calibration to be either be “On” or “Nightly”. Setting to “On” will calibrate at night, activity start, and continuously during activities. Setting to “Nightly” will set the device to only calibrate altitude at night. (Models without DEM maps will not perform continuous calibration during activities)
  • Fixed issue with alarms intermittently not going off when the device is set in Max. Battery Mode.
  • Fixed display issues on the device after navigating to a point initiated by the Garmin Explore App.
  • Fixed issue where selecting a single point on a map that contained multiple items would not display the items properly.
  • Fixed issue that would corrupt open water swim activity files.
  • Fixed issue where PacePro bands would not be recognized by the device.
  • Fixed issue with updating aviation data over wifi.
  • Fixed issue with activities reporting incorrect Activity Calories and Training Effect data.

Current beta peripheral software version numbers below. New versions are indicated in red.

We know this post states it is a public release candidate, yet the URL states it's a beta.  This is simply a method of delivery for public beta.  We use the same channel and therefore the 'beta' term follows each of these links.  We only note it is a public release candidate so that you are aware it's the proposed version to go live to the public.

  • Garmin, Explain why you are calibrating the HEIGHT, if I:

    1. I sleep in one place
    2. The accelerometer does not show a strong movement. (steps are not counted)
    3. Pulse is low
    4. I'm sleeping !!!!

what engineer got it into his head that the height changes?

    I agree, nonsense ...

  • Garmin Express has a mind of its own LOL!

  • (turning off completely pulse ox didn't stop steady 2% per hour battery drain and gps seems to be working normally when I have tried whether getting good gps fix could help).

2% ... thats bad. That's "hardware fault" bad. If you're on the beta track, email [email protected] and see if you can push them to investigate. That sort of battery burn suggests something is ramping up device processor usage - thinking of which, beta's have a "Device Usage" widget you can add to the watch that shows the relative usage of all the subsystems. That may be a good place to start as it may point out one part (BT, Wifi etc) that is just not working as it should....

  • Why, don't you ever sleep in your building's elevator? That actually requires multiple calibrations per night for sure....

  • Regarding the altimeter it's a worst since the previous beta's. I didn't have night calibration issues but when I'm traveling to different places my altitude now is always of by 10m or so and I never had such an issue before. I always used auto calibration, sensor mode auto and it's worked fine. Not anymore. I tried nightly calibration as well same results. Hopefully the next beta fix this.

  • As you pointed out in an earlier post, if you're sleeping, your real altitude is unlikely to change. That's a desirable thing when calibrating.  How on earth Garmin is supposed to know to what altitude to calibrate this non-vertically-moving watch is beyond me, but if you're going to calibrate, having a stationary watch is what you want. Hence the sleep window. But that's just a guess on my side.

  • Ideally what would be nice would be the ability to tell connect your home altitude and it calibrate at night to that.

  • This seems reasonable, and possibly a great idea in some cases, point seems to be... In many cases is not working properly, probably the vast majority of cases ,so... Why not allowing to turn it off, that's all people are asking!

I for once am absolutely NOT interested in altitude precision for 95% of my normal life, I spend practically all my time split between 2 places which area Respectively at 140 meter (plus 5 floors - where I live) and 120 meters (plus 2 floors - where I work), and when I go for a run my maximum vertical movement is around 3 meters... Basically... I don't care if the altimeter drifts away in time since elevation is an irrelevant information to me, I don't want my watch to waste battery in calibrating ever ,except 5% of my time where I could be somewhere on a vacation. I would like calibration to be only manual, don't care about the exact elevation big part of my time. The only use I have of the altimeter is to count climbed floors, which works flawless even in case calibration is off by 300 meters

  • deleting all maps and installing them again helped on my f6pro . it was problem since 15.x as i recall

Funny that  i used them maybe twice for last 2 years
