Battery issues after update 19.20

After updating my Fenix 6X to version 19.20, my battery is draining extremely fast. I took my watch off the charger at 0600 this morning with 100% and by 1400 it was already down to 70% charge. Before the update I would maybe be at 97%. I haven’t even used the device to track any activity, listen to music, and my pulse ox is turned off.

  • Yeah thats my thread. Turns out its a bug in 19.20 where the actual charged percentage doesn't update as the battery runs down (OR charges) giving the illusion of great battery life.

Is it really a bug, or a failed update ? If it is a bug, it should affect more people.

  • Update was done via a cradle, not OTA. Everything applied seemingly successfully. The problem probably came in after the factory reset and subsequent restore of the various settings. Bug or failed update, everything was done according to the book. With a recent firmware update Garmin also had to roll it back due to problems. Regardless, I didn't do anything wrong, and neither has the other user that also found the exact same issue. I expect as more people dive into 19.20 they'll also notice the problem.

  • 19.20 just barely finished rolling out, and already they have a 19.21b that adresses issues that people found with 19.20. Sh1t happens.

    I don‘t think so.

Have you reported your problem to support ? Have you already deleted your GarminDevice.xml ? Have you already done a master reset ? It seems to me that you (and another) have a problem with the device. It might be better to check with support if your devices need to be replaced.

  • Calm down Fish. Yes the problem was reported. Yes I have done a master reset, which is what my original thread had stated right in the title, where you commented on multiple times. My device doesn't need to be replaced. Thanks for your contributions.

    • Fixed issue with alarms intermittently not going off when the device is set in Max. Battery Mode.

That's the only posted change for 19.21. Not seen any posts about this. Please feel free to correct.

There is nearly always a new thread immediately following any update about battery issues. Always. Virtually without exception.

  • Whilst it may be generally true that there are battery complaints after updates I can confirm that, for me at least, they are quite real.  My battery usage has literally doubled since the update.  I've tried the shutdown and restart fix and it had no effect.  I'll be trying a hard reset later today.

I think that Philip’s point is that this is a common issue after updates and not specific to this one, not that it isn’t real.
