I am referring only to the Fenix 6 Pro series watches in this response to keep it simple:
No. A purchased map is for 1 device and is NOT updatable without buying it again.
Examples:
Yes, you'll be able to update via Garmin Express for free in the same way as your default topoactive map.
Whoops, I was mistaken apparently, I guess you do not get free updates.
Don't purchase maps from Garmin

C.sco - I am sorry I had to correct you. Maps can be complicated. The map vendor sets our licensing rules.
Thanks for the clarifications

Free, and based on the same OpenStreetMap sources - also updated more regularly. And I certainly find here the UK, the unofficial sources are far better for showing minor trails etc that may not show up on Garmin's maps.
good info! Thanks. I give a try
And are the several routing features (I.e round trip calculation) working either?
Thanks
You get routing and round trip feature. Only missing feature in non-gamin maps is Heatmap data (Which I haven't found extremely valuable TBH)
I don't use round-trip, can't comment on that, but routing is fine. Can see no difference between it, and the Garmin maps.
also updated more regularly.
I decided to take a look at my area on these maps to see if they were updated more frequently and showed more detail over my Garmin maps. They do appear to show more trails, but I noticed something and I want to inform potential users in the US who may want to download local maps. These maps show elevation in meters and not feet which is mostly commonly used in the US. My maps show a hill near my home at 459 feet and these maps display it at 140 meters. It's my assumption that even though I have my watch set for Imperial, it would still display 140 meters from the downloaded map.
