Fenix 6X scratched sapphire screen

Hi all,

I recently had my F5XPlus upgraded to a 6X Sapphire by Garmin ( Faulty Fenix 5 ) & within the first week or so, I've noticed that ive marked ( or scratched ) the screen.

Now i understand that these watches are Sapphire and realisticly shouldnt be marked unless said item that contacts the screen is high on the mohs scale.

anyone had something like this happen that has gone away or do i need to speak to Garmin Support ?

Most sapphire lenses on Fenix watches have been fine. Mine's taken a TON of trauma over the 13 months I've had it - no scratches. It would most certainly have a LOT of scratches and scuffs if it were Gorilla Glass - I know because my previous Garmin was gorilla glass. So there was nothing nefarious about Garmin's marketing of the sapphire lens. Others claim that all they did was sneeze and it got scratched, so perhaps the sapphire manufacturer isn't sending Garmin lenses of consistent quality. So if yours is clearly having manufacturer defects, place a warranty claim - it's fairly simple.

And nobody admits to causing the damage either; the scratches appear miraculously or as a result of scratching with a fingernail, a feather, or a gust of wind.

It is supposed to be scratched by diamond...so far I do not have any one at home...

Who says sapphire glass can only be scratched by diamonds? While sapphire glass is pretty close to diamond on the hardness scale that is not the same as saying it can only be scratched by diamonds. That being said, it is possible that it’s not the glass but the coating that is scratched.

Who do you sue if the brakes on your BMW are defective and you are now in a wheelchair? It's not BMW's fault because they didn't make the brakes? When you sell a product, you are also responsible for the overall quality. How the company ensures the quality of its suppliers is also their responsibility.
