HR too high after 23.48

Anyone else seeing heart rate consistently too high after the update? Once I start a ride, its easily 20bpm over but will shoot up over 50bpm over during modest efforts. Today it recorded a peak HR of 219 during a zone 3 effort (my real heart rate at that time was probably closer to 150).

  • Similar to  , nothing has changed for me except for the software update

  • I've done a few rides now with the latest beta firmware, and while it seems the behavior slight improved, its still wildly inaccurate. I filed a bug here: forums.garmin.com/.../epix-2-firmware-25-03-hr-data-too-high

  • I haven't received any indication Garmin is looking at my bug report in the other forum, so double posting this here for any other users who might correlate it with your experience:

I updated to 25.08 this morning, went for a run, and (as Garmin engineers likely know) this isn't fixed yet. The HR data ramped up quickly and was too high within the first minute, but interestingly at around 19 minutes in, it dropped down 20bpm to what seemed to be a realistic number. Its almost like Garmin tried to correct for the HR data that takes about that long to ramp UP to the real number, but now is way over-corrected?

  • youre not alone bro, im having the same issues i was trying to see whats going on but i know its not my sleep or hrv as these have been tanked as usual and then i said maybe ill come to the forums and see if im losing my mind or not because i know when im running / the effort im running if im going too hard or too chilled but the few days since i went to that firmware everything has been super high , i would def go back to 23.18 as that was the most steady one for me in terms of all the scores though ive never rolled back on update not sure how , i saw a post earlier that   knows is very knowledgeable on how to do it

  • I rolled back to 23.18 this morning and this bug went away, confirming its not a hardware issue. Now the HR is too slow to ramp up again, which is the *old* bad behavior, but its more preferable to the *new* bad behavior!

its not hard to rollback, but its an annoying process.

    1. On the watch, under settings, do a backup (System > Back Up & Restore . This will save all your config to your phone

    2. Go to the beta forum, and at the bottom of the announcement for the first beta after the stable release you want, there are links to the old firmware:  Beta Version 23.22 - 'Check for Updates' Only

    3. The zip file will tell you what files to place and where, which you need to do on a computer. If you're on a Mac, you'll likely need to install another app to be able to connect the Garmin as a storage device, something like android.com/filetransfer

  • Oh and be sure to turn off Software auto-updates on the watch when you're done!

  • This behaviour happens when it's cold weather, a it's a normal issue in optical HR sensors in all brands, this is why is needed a good warm up before start the activity, or using chest straps till the weather is warmer and the optical HR sensor can read the blood flow better

  • Thanks bro I appreciate it , I’m about to do it however when I do the back up it just says upload pending or in progress but doesn’t seem to be creating a back up for some reason ?

  • Yeah that’s true though where I am it’s not really cold as it was meant to be it’s all really been odd and humid and 10 Celsiuspleading face -   I alternate between it and coros arm band , I do tend to  warm up 2-3km to get the body prepped for the proper session , hence why I figured something was way off in this previous update

  • All Sorted bro I’m on 23.18 now and didn’t lose any data hrv vo2 etc all good Blush thanks for your help as well
