“Invalid” activity after long run & restart

After pressing Save at the end of a long run, the watch restarts. The activity then appears as “Invalid” on the watch and does not sync to Garmin Connect.

It happened twice within a week, specifically on my long runs (~30 km today, 27 Sep 2025, and on 20 Sep 2025 on a 28km long run.

The watch did'nt make any problem during shorter runs or strength sessions this week.

  • I’ve just had exactly the same happen to my on my epix at the end of a 21km run

  • Have you tried a manual upload from your Garmin device to Garmin Connect Web - How Do I Manually Upload an Activity I Recorded to Garmin Connect?

If you get any message other than "import complete," then there is a problem with the file. You can try to repair the file using 3rd-party tools, such as FIT File Viewer. Runs in the browser and require no additional software. If you're still unable to import the activity into Garmin Connect, attach the file to this thread. We can take a look to see if it is repairable.

    • Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
    • Or upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDriveGoogle DriveDropbox, make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.
  • that is great, thank you so much for your help. It took me a moment to figure it out but all uploaded! thank you.

  • This has also happened to me recently on two occasions - both when I was using pacepro. I have followed the guidance below and been able to upload which is fabulous. But has not happened to me before September on long runs, I'm really intrigued by the coincidence. Has it happened to others too I wonder?

  • Happens on my long runs too. Stopped the activity, saved, saw the saving animation and then the watch crashed and rebooted. Rebooted back to the stopped activity screen, saved again, saw the saving animation and then watch crashed and rebooted a second time...  luckily the activity was in history, but did not registered as the 'latest activity' on the device. Most of the performance metrics dont register the run either.  I've reported to garmin support and uploaded logs. If you've not reported a support ticket, please do... Pray

I've a long run planned on Sat, going into it knowing the watch will crash on save amd kost of the data will be lost.  But will generate more logs and crash reports for garmin support...

  • I just had hours of panic, on my activity (Strava link) and hereunder I will share the quick solution: https://strava.app.link/CXGqVYlqMXb:

When your Garmin betrays you... TriumphChains️‍Boom

Yesterday my Epix crashed mid-save and marked my 24km run as "INVALID" Skull I lost all my data - which was what I needed to understand how to approach my next race Sob

9 hours of troubleshooting later (and yes, some additional wrinkles Rofl), here's the 3-step fix:

White check mark Extract .FIT file from watch (Mac users: download MacDroid)
White check mark Upload to fitfileviewer.com
White check mark Download fixed file → upload to Garmin Connect

    Activity FIXED & SAVED! Tada
PSA: Screenshot this for when it happens to you (because it might if your watch runs almost out of battery while you finish an activity Sweat smile)

    Happy Sunday training everyone! Runner♂️Muscle
