I'M OUT

I’ve been using Garmin watches since 2012.. After the news today that my epix pro  two of two years will not be receiving the new updates I’m out. The greed of  this company is out of control. I will not buy another $1000 watch.  Onto Polar or Suunto I go.

  • Dear Garmin,

Happy, long time customer here. Started with a FR405.

I had my eyes firmly set on a marq watch. Currently on a epix pro 2 sapphire which I really enjoy. But only supporting a watch with new features for just two years is honestly not a good proposition for me.

I guess your product team has evaluated the impact of their decisions. So take this a data point.

Feel free to contact me any time.

  • I've been using the Epix Pro for a year, which doesn't record any naps, doesn't correctly record sleep time, the map screen goes blank, and it randomly reboots every now and then when I'm navigating.

    Just stupid question.
Did you ever contacted Garmin support and report these errors?
For me it looks your device is faulty and should be replaced.
I use Garmin watches since Fenix 3 and on each occasion I had issue with their device, first I called support instead of complaining on user forum.

  • Adam, as I mentioned before, I've been using Garmin since the release of the Dakota 20, in 2009 if I'm not mistaken, and I still use that device. Since the Dakota, I've had the FR10, Fenix 1, Fenix 2, Fenix 5, Fenix 6, Index, Tempe, HRM RUN, Edge 130+, Edge 530, DriveSmart 66, EPix Pro, and the equivalent watches for my wife. I want to make it clear that I'm not a Garmin hater or new to Garmin. In fact, Garmin-Iberia's technical service is fantastic; it's the best the brand has to offer.
The Epix's sleep and nap times worked fine when I bought it, so the sensors work fine. However, after updates, my wife's and my Epix no longer track naps and sleep correctly. Therefore, it's not a problem with our watches, it's a problem with the updates.

  • Have you ever tried a reset to defaults in the watches? i have the epix pro 2 and it solved many software issues, remember to sync before you do, also you can try the reinstall software option, going to system menu in about cliclking 8 times the light button will open a new menu with one of the options called: Reinstall Software, this reinstall again de system firmware, its true that the firmwares comes with many bugs, but since 22.06 its very stable and works fine everything, incluiding naps, and sleep and everything

    Not nice.
I had similar situation couple years ago with Samsung mobile, after SW update, fingerprint reader stopped to work.
It is still accounted under warranty.

And I will repeat, you should report it to Garmin support.
First, because your device stopped to work like it should.
Second, to give them indicative information that something is wrong with software updates.

  • o wow, never know about that "secret" menu.

do you know if the "reinstall software" option resets watch to factory settings ?

  • as far as i know, no, only reinstall the firmware,

  • thank you, for replying. i might give it a go, and report if it is or not ;)

  • In the many times I have done on my 965 it does not reset settings etc

  • Good luck, bro. I tryed 6 suunto watches in the last 2 years (4 suunto vertical and 2 suunto race). In every watch I had seriously problems. The last was this weekend. The suunto race stop reading HR from my chest strap in the most important race this year (48km +3600m). The live track stops aswell. In the middle of the race restarting the watch, trying to connect again the HR sensor several times. Nothing works. Finally I continued with the watch sensor and... can you imagin what happen? Yes, 1h later the HR sensor of the watch stops reading aswell. In 14 years with garmin watches NEVER has any problem as serious as that. So, again. Good luck with suunto.
