Epix pro gen2 voice announcer sounds like a chipmunk.

  1. Epix pro gen2 voice announcement has been getting higher and higher pitched, and faster over the past months, and now above 13khz and so fast it's done before the vibration motor stops. Changing announcer voice and resetting watch didn't reset it.

I'm on the latest firmware. Any help appreciated.

  • I also have this problem, cannot decide if it is tied to the (awful) Samsung update or Garmin.  I have played with settings on both and cannot find a way to stop it.  Either way, the new voice (for English UK) is annoying and needs to be put back to the old format which was clear and easy to understand when running.  When the new voice did work, the minute announcement was just about reasonable, but the seconds poorly articulated - 14 sounded like 40 etc.  The chipmunk voice is a 'bonus feature' that I could do without as it just gets me annoyed now.

  • I have a Samsung phone too, S21 , and i don't think it is the phone as it started after a long time on OneUI 6.1, and is still present on OneUI 7.0.

At least you can still hear the announcer, it gets worse.

I have tried the UK voice since the post, and it was better for a week. Now i can barely hear it at all, it's like a chipmunk on helium with playback speed of 5x.Weary At least the vibration is working.  I have changed to AU today, hoping that works on my next activity.

If anyone from garmin is reading this, could you please raise this issue to your team. No-one answered Yvette two years ago with her Fenix6 pro solar.

  • Come on garmin, this is surely an easy fix to push out as an app update to reinstate the original, clearly spoken voice! TIA!

  •  I'm not sure if anyone have seen my post from garmin support, do you know anything or have a solution. I didn't want to ping anyone but i feel it's been long enough. My next solution is to return the watch as faulty.

This high pitch announcer voice is on the watch, on my phone and on my headset(both through the watch and phone bluetooth). It happens in EnglishUK/US/AU and Norwegian, both male and female announcer. I doubt changing to any other language will help, and even so that wouldn't be a solution to the issue we're facing.

I'm on software version 22.06, but it started in early Q1 this year.

This is not something new since it was reported by Yvette over 3 years ago Fenix 6, and my post has not seen a reply from garmin after four months.

  • Yes, there is a solution.  It is in the general settings on your phone within "Text to speech" (or similar).  On my phone it is buried away in the Accessibility>TalkBack settings.  On that setting on your phone you change the speed and pitch of the voice announcement; Garmin also told me that the Google TTS engine should be used instead of Samsung's, but I found that didn't make much difference other than a more familiar voice.  Hope this helps!

  • Thank you! FINALLY an answer and it worked, glad you figured it out :D
