Epix Pro Gen 2 Sapphire - ECG does not work

I have the above watch, bought about 8 months ago. This morning I got the notification from Connect that I should set up the ECG feature. I followed the instructions, which were echoed on the watch face. When I got to the point that I was told to grasp the metal rim with my thumb and forefinger, I did so but no reading was taken and the app eventually timed out with a 'failed' caption. I tried it several times. I definitely have a heartbeat, and my Kardia 6V confirms that at least some electrical signals are bouncing around inside me.

Is it me or my watch that is broken?

  • Well, you obviously didn’t read my post. 

    I repeat: Garmin Connect prompted me to set up the ECG function this morning. Now, why would it do that? Probably because Garmin activated the ECG function in my country in the last 24 hours. 

  • Something strange is going on here, as there were previously several replies to this thread. 

    Yes, I am in a supported region. The UK was added on Wednesday of this week, which is why Garmin Connect prompted me to complete the setup by adding the ECG functionality. 

    My watch is on the latest software (20.22). Garmin Connect is fully up to date. Location Services are activated. I have factory reset the watch, and uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max). I am fully aware of how to go through the process of activating the ECG - I also have a Venu 2 Plus on which I activated it last time I was in the USA.

    I have now raised a ticket with Garmin and am awaiting their response. 

  • To update: Garmin have agreed that the watch is faulty and are replacing it.
