v20.22 ruined my battery life

Since the last update to v20.22 the battery life of my watch has gone down from the usual 15-16 days to less than a week. Yesterday I went to bed with allegedly 3 days left, I woke up in the morning half hour late because the battery had died and the alarm died with it.

Come on Garmin!! Seriously? Can you guys please come out with a fix soon?

  • Yep I'm having terrible battery life!

  • Did you restart/turn off the watch after the update?  Do a hard reset?

  • oh no! This is a bug that was introduced from 19.41. It has not been fixed in 20.16 and looks like it has not been addressed in 20.22.

I'm also down to 2 or less days of battery. I have logs being sent to Garmin for over a month but their engineers aren't doing anything to give priority to this issue. Please call up Garmin and report your issue.

Other things to note: Do not upgrade your software, please read this forum - especially the posts by Garmin staff and their statements about what the new software will address. Does the new software address bug fixes? Wait and observe the response from people. Are there new bugs introduced?

If you do need the new software and it's relatively bug free then go for it I say, otherwise stick with your current working software. People report still being on functioning 15.XX software that is working - I wish I was on that given the bugs I am dealing with each day.

Go to Garmin Connect - turn off Automatic Updates

Got Garmin Connect IQ - turn off Automatic Updates

Go to Garmin Express - turn off Automatic Updates

Please be aware that there is a software update bug (this is definitely in Garmin Express on Mac). How this bug works: When you have Automatic updates off it will still update! Don't use Garmin express if you know there is a software update you need to avoid. You'll just get an updated buggy software.

Why are we going to all this trouble? because Garmin aren't reading this forum, their not reviewing feedback, their not fixing bugs. That's all too low priority for them.

  • Having the same problem! Please address Garmin!

  • Yes. After a single game of golf my battery falls to 30%. And the watch crashed during the game. Please investigate!!!!

  • You can try to report the problem to Garmin support.

Garmin already doesn't care about the Fenix 7 family watches (also Epix). But try it, maybe if they get 100 similar reports they will take an interest in this problem

  • Add me to the list. A 90-minute bike ride dropped my battery 30 percent.

  • Thanks for warning. I'm on 18.14 and have no intention of updating unless I am forced to so the watch syncs with Garmin connect. Currently it syncs

Garmin's beta testing is abysmal. Every release there are issues. And then their fixes introduce new issues.

  • Hello, users experiencing issues with the battery life of their Fenix 7 Pro watches can write directly to Laurie-Garmin for permission to investigate any issues that may be occurring in the watch and affecting its normal battery life.

I understand this would help us all because it could gather a wide variety of valuable information regarding the use and behavior of the watch and its battery, potentially leading to the detection and correction of any internal memory leaks.
