Gravel ride saves as Road Cycling

Trying to separate my gravel bike and road bike ride so I can track mileage of each.  ALL my rides show up in Connect as Road Cycling.  Any ideas on how to separate the two?

  • Any ideas on how to separate the two?

You can only change the designation in Garmin Connect but if you record the ride as gravel you will get that separation anyway. On your watch select Gravel Riding as an Activity and they will appear in GC as that.

As far as I know you cannot separate out the different types of cycling when looking at the overall distance in the reports in GC. As you note, there is only the total. However, there is a workaround. Pull up the list of all your activities, select cycling then select Gravel/Unpaved Cycling and that will give you a list of those. You can then export that file as a .csv that can bel loaded into a spreadsheet and then you can find the total. Probably not what you want as it's not as simple as interrogating the activity data that you've uploaded.

You can get the totals by subcategory in the Progress Summary Report of GC web:

  • Thanks.  Yes, I use the progress report to filter for gravel cycling.  Problem is both my gravel rides and road rides show up as road rides so gravel rides shows zero entries.  Frustrating, but I'm sure someone will come up with a solution.

  • As already written - you can change the type from Road to Gravel at past rides easily in Garmin Connect.

And for your future rides, make sure you use the native Gravel activity profile, and not a clone of the Road cycling profile. Unless you have some buggy version of the Gravel activity profile. In that case contact the Support and report it to them.

  • Yes, that's the problem.  I *do* select Gravel as the activity and it records in Connect as Road.  I can go into Activities in Connect and manually change the activity to Gravel, but that is a pain.  It *should* record Gravel as Gravel and Road as Road.  I'll keep digging into the settings to try to figure out why this is happening.

  • First of all, connect your watch to a computer with Garmin Express and check for updates. When done, completely remove the Gravel activity from your watch, and then add it back. Then do a short test, recording a dummy Gravel activity of a few seconds (no need to use a bike), save, and see whether it helped. If not, call the Support and report it to them.

  • Check the settings in GC -

That impacts only the name, not the activity type. It won't help in this case.

  • This was the solution!  I had created a Gravel Ride activity on my Fenix 5 (which didn't have one) by cloning Road Cycling.  When I got my Epix, this was copied over so I was not using the built-in Gravel activity in the Epix, but the clone.  I have deleted the clone and tested with the proper activity and all is now working properly.  Thank you everyone for your help.
