Nap in Garmin Epix Pro 51mm

Hello everyone, this is the first time I write in the forum and I hope I did it in the right place..
I am a Garmin Epix Pro 2 gen. owner and, for several months, my device no longer automatically records afternoon "naps" (on average once or twice a week); unfortunately I am forced to record them manually. Given that I have already tried to do a "master reset", as recommended by Garmin support, in your opinion, is it a good idea to send it to technical support (always as suggested by Garmin), or could it depend on the fact that when I am resting my HR is not low enough?
Has the same problem happened to anyone else?
Thanks everyone!
  • it seems to be relevant to 19.xx version, are you running this version ? 19.41 for example ?

  • Hi, yes I have version 19.41 (I don't know if it's the latest..) but from what I remember, I think it's a beta version.
    Thanks..
  • It does seem that Garmin changed automatic nap detection recently, in order to reduce or eliminate false nap reporting.

Personally I am pleased with the change. I was the victim of a lot of false nap recording, when I was gaming, for example, but also when deliberately chilling. I also don't think there was much (if any) value to the feature. Often it would replace perfectly good overnight sleep with a false nap. It was a mess.

In any event, the watch still records heart rate, stress, body battery and all other things. The "nap" feature just seems to be a label rather than a physiologically valuable insight, especially when it used to get it wrong so often and potentially destroying other perfectly good data of far more importance, such as my actual sleep stats.

  • For the record, my watch did actually detect a nap this morning, after I woke, as I had a poor night's sleep and decided to lie in. At least it was a genuine nap, so the feature is working, but it seems it now has a better judgement of true napping vs being calm, relaxed and motionless. At least that's my latest experience.

  • hi ..

i am also not receiving nap recording ..

    my version 19.41 ...

in my case for a medical condition this is a very important feature ...any idea from the reps of garmin when this will be fixed.....i have sent 2 reports via garmin connect and just receive a reply that my complaint is being dealt with..no further correspondence

  • Hello. I am sorry to hear you are having this issue.

Original post was sometime ago, and I am not seeing others experiencing the issue with the widget. However if this is also ongoing please let me know.

For those not seeing any nap recording, the most common cause of naps not being detected, is spikes in stress and/or heart rate. So if you are reviewing your all day stress chart, if you are seeing higher levels of stress during your naps, this would prevent the watch from capturing this as a nap.

If you are seeing no nap detection on the watch, and are seeing no spikes in HR or stress, please feel free to reach out to me via Private Message. I would love to help investigate this further.

  • Thank you for your reply ...(lots of talk on face book groups about no nap recording so I assume more people are actually suffering from the same problem.)..and on one of those groups I was informed that if my stress level was high it would cause a problem in recording naps ...the thought on the group's is that Garmin changed the parameters of nap recording because of people complaining that naps were being recorded while watching TV or in the dentist chair when they were not napping ...I just wish that there were settings within the naps settings on how sensitive you want naps to be recorded...that way everyone could be happy ...me at this time in my life where medically recording the time in a 24 hr period of have many times I have actually dozed off for health reasons and other people who don't want there overall figures to be messed up by them napping when they were not ....... maybe this could be passed on as a wish ...thank you ...mike

  • Thanks for replying....in my case it appears that my stress levels are high.(For the first 2 hours after I go to sleep ) Which is causing naps not to be recorded ...see my reply to the Garmin representative.....hope this can be sorted out with everyone being happy ...l

  • Hi again ...my overnight sleep is being recorded ...just the summary in the morning tells me it was to long/short and my body battery was not charged ...but I can still see the information ...

    • The naps refuses to  record and tell me that my stress levels were to high or something else ...it will not share any information about my nap ..it just refuses to record my time napping with a summary of things I could do to improve ..(like the overnight sleep).that would be fine ..I could still see the information...like my overnight sleep records .

    Thanks
