Training Calendar Won't Sync to Watch - "Download your training calendar from Garmin Connect" Error

Hi! I started a Garmin coach-training plan on Garmin Connect (does not solve anything to start the plan on the phone). In my wildest I though that the calendar would be synced to the watch and suggest the scheduled activities whenever I do an activity on the watch (running). However, the activities does not get recommended and when I navigate to the training calendar and press it get the message ”Download your training calendar from Garmin Connect”

The key thing(s) is that all the activities are in both Garmin Connect on the web and in the app. But I really can’t find how to download it. Anyone who can help?

Firmware 19.34
Garmin connect App: 5.27

The usual, technical, stuff I tried:

  • Restarted watch, phone, and all related devices
  • Cleared sync cache in Garmin Express (Mac)
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Connect app
  • Reset watch settings and reconfigured all permissions
  • Verified WiFi setup
  • Attempted creating plan on both web and mobile platforms

Not sure when this could have been started (pre 19.34 or 5.27) but it is a fact that the issues is here in these versions.

  • Did they help you solve the problem?

  • Can you help me with the same issue? I have a Garmin Fenix 8

  • Similar issue here. I set my training up in TrainingPeaks, and it has synced to my watch for years. I idly clicked in to Coach, to see if there were ultra plans available, then cancelled out. Now I get the same error as the OP. Please help, I use detailed workouts. Thanks.

  • This morning I set up a new session via TrainingPeaks, and synced as normal.  I'm unsure if any backend magic happened via a Garmin person in here, or if that TrainingPeaks sync kicked things, but I now have my training calendar back and working.

  • Hi

I have a similar problem getting a Training Calendar from Garmin Connect to a Forerunner 945.
I didnt have those files in the Guided folder to delete. The only file i had was dws-rn.fit which i renamed, rather than delete.
    Looking forward to an update.

  • I started running into this problem only when I received a replacement epix gen 2 watch due to a HW problem with my previous epix gen 2.  When I switched to my replacement watch, none of the calendar training events moved over.  (Interestingly, my HR ranges were also reset.)  During the switchover, I did receive a message that there was either insufficient storage or too many workouts already on the watch for it to move things over.

While the watch was not running the latest firmware when I received it, it is now upgraded, but unfortunately that didn't resolve the problem.  Garmin Connect for Android is running the latest version.

I tried the earlier posted 'workaround' to delete some files when connected to my computer, but I don't have any of those files on my watch.

So I took the sledgehammer approach - I did a hard reset (factory defaults and delete all user data).  I also deleted the old watch from Garmin Connect and restarted my phone.

That seems to have solved the problem with the calendar not getting updated, although I wouldn't recommend this.  I assumed that Garmin would still be able to apply my previously used settings, but that unfortunately didn't happen.  So I'm applying my preferences for watch face, applications, exercise types, etc.

  • I really do not think this is a hardware issue (i.e., reflecting on the internal storage and replacement watch, but can't be 100% sure of course). This issue has been around for a while, and like I said in the original message, I've tried everything - resets, reinstalls, etc. - with the same issue persisting.

I've also sent my Garmin files to support and received an (almost humiliating) response claiming that I hadn't enabled Garmin Coach, suggesting that's why the coach activities don't sync. Of course I had it activated, but since syncing to the watch is an absolute disaster, I stopped using it.

  • I agree - this is not a HW issue - the HW problem I had with my previous watch was unrelated to the calendar sync problem.  The training calendar not syncing started only when I setup my replacement watch.

I took the reset to the extreme - deleting the watch and HRM from garmin connect and my phone, rebooting my phone, and doing a hard reset of the watch (not just a factory reset).

And once I did all of the resetting above, the training calendar is now syncing - all of this points to it not being a HW issue.

  • I was on a coach marathon training plan and my Enduro would allow me to select the planned run from the training calendar option on the watch.    About a week ago it instructed me on my watch to Download your training calendar from Garmin Connect.  In reading through the posts and then going on to my Connect App I found when I filtered my calendar with coached runs nothing showed up.  When I filtered by Workout all my workouts from the Marathon training plan I'm on appear.   Currently I can pull up the training plan under workouts but not under training plan on my watch.

  • I have Garmin marathon coach plan in process.  About a week ago I ran into the same issues where my Enduro watch told me to download calendar from Garmin connect.  In going to the Garmin App and sorting by coach plan nothing shows up.  However when I sort by workouts I can now see my Marathon coach plan.  In looking on my watch I can find the coach plan under workouts now instead of previously it was under training calendar.
