Garmin and "Built to Last"

Just putting it out there, how the quality of Garmin's watches has gone down the drain.

They post "Built to Last" on their website when describing the watches, but this has been my experience the last year:

Bought an Epix Pro 51mm - after ~6months, the touch screen had a ghost touch issue that went away on reboot, but kept coming back. Multiple software versions.

About 2 months ago, I finally contacted support, which exchanged it with a "recertified" Epix Pro.

This 'new' replacement was great for a week, when suddenly its altimeter would jump straight up or down by 50 to 100m while I am sitting at my desk or sleeping. No software changes, no swimming with it yet, literally a week later.

Contacted support again, they replaced it again with another 'new' recertified Epix Pro...got it, elevation is good again for the first week, but now, every time the screen turns on, a pixel glows bright red and goes off. Support tells me to monitor it and let them know if it gets worse... Went for a couple exercises, noticed the heart rate drops out randomly while at a steady pace...so back to emailing support.. And they say they checked the pixel issue some more and would just replace it with a 4 (FOURTH) Epix Pro...

By this point I was sick of the issues. My last good Garmin was the Fenix 6, so I asked if I can get the Fenix 7X Pro instead, which they obliged to. So...here's to hoping the MIP screen will be more reliable, and it doesn't suffer any other issue.

TLDR, Garmin NA support is top of the class, but their product quality sucks nowadays.

(Also bought a Tactix 7 Pro Ballistics that had a loose vibration motor within 2 months)...

  • Meanwhile, mine just keeps going...

  • Meanwhile, mine just keeps going...

    Mine, too!  Nary a hiccup.

    HTH

  • yup, the two of you with your perfect record of garmin devices trolling every single person that has issues. I had 4 broken watches in a row, so...luckily Garmin support is better than their QC.

  • Mine also works great. So I'm lucky or only the unhappy people are complaining and the vast happy majority is silent.

  • My Epix 2 is going strong after 2 years and half.

I have some problems with screen burn-in but I accepted that possibility when I started to use it as I'm doing.

Could be better or worse but nothing that makes the watch unusable or bad looking.

  • you are unlucky and really should have it that bad - which of course does raise a concern especially in regards to the recertified ones as they should be fully tested....

But have to say Fenix 6x + 4 years no issues and my daily driver Epix 2  now 2.5 years no issues.

I think all companies have issues, and really don't think garmin is any worse than any other company including apple, and at least their support is way better than most company's including loads of the other big brands like samsung.

  • Fenix 6 and previous watches are different than Fenix 7 and Epix. Quality on newer Garmin devices seems to be worse than previously. And now same goes for software as well. Something is going on in Garmin, which inevitably leads to questions that OP asked.

  • This has not been my experience since my first fenix watch in 2012.

Seems more like a YMMV situation than some catastrophic system-wide Garmin problem, IMHO.

    HTH

  • Many people did have problems with buttons stopping working after using watch in water or just out of a blue. That is catastrophic for such expensive watches such as fenix 7 and epix.

You on the other hand seem to have a problem with people raising and discussing issues so much that you constantly  dislike their comments and distort the truth just to make Garmin look better (even when obvious problem is discussed such as battery drain). You are obviously too invested in this brand and lack objectivity, thus I do not believe too much in your claims.

  • Some posters clearly have nothing better to do than slam Garmin at every opportunity and obviously

    lack objectivity

Some users do have problems but some do not. Some posters simply refuse to accept anything good that some posters have to say preferring to wallow in their own mire. As

Seems more like a YMMV situation than some catastrophic system-wide Garmin problem

While it is not good that any buyer of any product should have problems, it happens. Deal with it.
