Steps no longer being recorded

Steps are not incrementing on the watch, or not syncing to Garmin Connect?

In the first case, hard-reset the watch - sync, then press the Light button for some 30s till it completely shuts down (hold the button through the emergency alert, if it comes), wait little bit, and then restart. No worry, no data or settings will be lost with it. [more details]. If not helping, do the master reset to factory defaults. If still no go, reach out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com. 

In the second case, I recommend to Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App | Garmin Customer Support, then log a few minutes of steps and HR, and record a test activity, wait till the next morning, sync, and see whether it helped. If not, then have a look at the Troubleshooting guide for (some) data missing after syncing for more tips.

My Vivoactive 5 stopped counting steps today too.  I plugged it into my PC (after trying several power on/off) and opened Garmin express.  While there were no SW updates, I sync'd it a few times from express and then it just started working.

Not the most elegant solution but it worked....

In the last 2 days, my step count has "reset" resulting in losing several thousand steps. I've restarted the watch several time but the steps are gone.
