Will the Epix series get an UI update to the fenix 8 style?

Just watched a review on the Fenix 8 and love the new UI style. Will the Epix pro get an update to that UI style?

  • Oh yeah, that watch is a hot mess.  I feel bad for all those folks who got one.  I get any new product (not just watches) are released with 'acceptable' bugs to get it out the door to meet a date and then they are actively working on all the bugs they new it has/had.  But still.....  for ~$1200, they should of waited a few more weeks.

  • Please DO NOT update the UI of the Epix. I bought my watch and have configured it extensively according to the current UI and do not want it changed from under me. New features that are not UI dependant, and ofc firmware updates... Bring em on.

  • so what to update if not the UI ?

    Features and bugs

  • I’ve been an Apple user for years, but this year I decided to switch to Garmin, seeking the best technology in watches, comparing it to the Apple Watch Ultra. I bought the Epix Pro trusting the brand, but I’m disappointed to see it discontinued after only 6 months of use. It’s frustrating to invest in a premium product and feel scammed. I hope Garmin considers its users and provides updates or solutions.

  • I don't understand this mindset, you haven't been scammed, you still have one of the best watches on the planet that still has all the features you wanted when you made the decision. Sure, the name is discontinued, but you'll still get updates via new firmware releases that'll include some new features, improvements and big fixes, just not new the new UI. This is the same as all other Garmin watches to date iirc. If requiring a new UI with each update was a requirement you probably shouldn't have bought a Garmin to begin with.

  • I appreciate your perspective, but I respectfully disagree. While I acknowledge that the Epix Pro is still a great device, the new UI updates are not just cosmetic; they often bring improvements in usability and new functionalities that enhance the overall experience. This is a standard practice for many tech companies, including Apple, which provides such updates even to older devices. Garmin’s approach of not extending these updates feels like a missed opportunity to add value and retain customer satisfaction. I chose Garmin believing in their long-term commitment to their products, and while I understand that hardware evolves, software updates should be inclusive of all compatible devices, not just the latest models. This would align better with what other industry leaders do and would greatly improve the user experience.

  • the new UI updates are not just cosmetic; they often bring improvements in usability and new functionalities that enhance the overall experience

Often you would be correct, but in this case it did the exact opposite of what you said. It decreased usability, added basically zero new functions, and brought with it a ton of new bugs. Have you looked at the Fenix 8 forum here?

  • I understand that new interfaces and functionalities can bring bugs, and I’m willing to face those challenges as part of the innovation and development process. However, my concern is that Garmin updates are often slow, and this issue worsens with a discontinued product, potentially leaving users with an outdated device quickly. The Epix line was positioned as a more premium option compared to the Fenix, so it’s unfair that it’s not kept in the current development line, as users expected support and evolution consistent with its level.
