Garmin weather information

Dear Garmin,

Epix 2 pro sapphire user here and absolutely love it. Especially the running data, mapping and the way the watch looks, very nice.

(Only the sleep data seems to be kinda all over the place (watching tests and reviews)).

But there is one thing that’s bothering me. The weather is always off for like 2-5 degrees Celsius where I live (in South Holland in the Netherlands). I remember seeing some time ago it takes “Hoek van Holland” weather data. But that’s a different location with being next to the sea different temperatures.

So in practice I still check my phone daily for the weather but on the watch would be easier.

Would u please reconsider the amount of weather data points for the Netherlands because besides this it’s awesome.

Many thanks for reading this and taking the comment to the right department Pray

  • Yes there sure are moments its ok. Yours looks fine for this week (su mo bit off but ok) But it’s faulty quite often.

It's actually always good for me.

Of course, it also happens to me occasionally that the displayed forecast is completely wrong. But then the predictions of all services are usually wrong.

As for the small deviations - as you mentioned - these are negligible. Try to find two weather apps that always deliver exactly the same forecasts. As good as impossible. Not a Garmin problem in this case. There are different forecast models based on different mathematical calculations. So not all services use the same model.

Even if the different services retrieve data from the same weather stations, there will be deviations if different forecast models are used.

These weather models are automatically analyzed by computer and used to generate a forecast. Ultimately, however, it is all based on a CALCULATION OF PROBABILITY. The last link in the chain is meteorologists, who decide which model they trust more in the current general weather situation. Accordingly, different data is published.

This is what we can see every day in the various weather reports.

I have 2 weather apps on my iphone. The standard app says min/max for today 18/32 Celsius. Another well-known app says 19/29 for today.
The standard app says sun for today. The other app says sun/clouds.

Both apps on the same phone. Both apps have the forecast for today.

Both show the forecast for the same location.

  • Hello everyone,
unfortunately I have not been very active in this forum since my problem was not really solved. Unfortunately, the problem with the weather is apparently not so easy for Garmin to solve. I've been working on this with Chris from customer service for a while now. I would simply write to him. Also, if you search the forum, you can see that there are a lot of problems with the weather. In the past, there was often talk of application errors on the part of others in the forum or ‘everything works great for me’ messages, but unfortunately the reality is different. Here in Tyrol you can easily reconstruct this by simply setting the location and then you will see that the weather data is incorrect. My Fenix 7 is currently showing highs of 20 and lows of 9 - it's currently 3 degrees here (high for today from the internet is 10) - so it's way off the mark and bad for an outdoor watch, as I actually need it when I'm out and about. We also have a few weather stations in our neighbourhood - so it can't be that. Apparently the error occurs more often around the world than just here. My request - join forces with Chris from customer service and draw attention to the problem. And it seems to help temporarily to install a different weather app on the watch.

    Best regards

    Dopamindi

  • My Epix 2 non-pro I got on release day, almost 3 years ago.  The accuracy of current weather temps was horrible.  Often 5-8 degrees off.  And this was after checking off precision location accuracy on my phone for the GC app.  I ended up installing the OpenWeather app which while not perfect, it might of only been 1-3 degrees off the actual temp outside.  FYI on my new Fenix 8, the temps are closer to what it is, but not substantially better than the Epix.

  • Same experience here in the UK, on FR 955. It incredibly annoying and forecasts almost Mediterranean temperatures whilst, the reality is lows of 0 degrees and less!

It's really really unacceptable and should be a priority for Garmin.

,can you provide an update to your customers regarding this?
