Map Updates available on Epix but not on Garmin Express

My Garmin Epix Gen 2 shows several map updates (SkiView, Topo Maps for Australia). When I try to update over WiFi (connected to power) the download gets to 100% then I get an error "Map Sync Failed". Every time I reconnect to power it starts to re-download, gets to a few % then gives "Map Sync Failed".

When I connect the Epix to my PC and use Garmin Express, it shows no updates available.

I have restarted the watch but makes no difference. I have checked for new map updates on the watch and it still shows updates available.,

It seems when downloading over WiFi that it is downloading the same map version as is already installed e.g. SkiView 2024.10

Why does my watch think there are map updates where Garmin Express doesn't?

UPDATE: I've just updated my Epix to the latest software version (18) and the "Queued" notice is gone and the map is fully there.

Same issue for me. Garmin Express says updated but watch says updates available. When I connect to power it takes 6 hrs and then fails at around 97%

I have the same issue. CourseView updates start downloading but fail at the end.

Yep, love hate relationship with Garmin. It’s so nice but in the details so buggy compared to current day software like Apple’s.

I've noticed a few posts on this - I'm having the same issue but sort of have a solution... I have the UK version of the Epix 2 so it has the three Europe maps. I'm off to Vietnam next weekend so want to have the relevant map on my watch. I removed the Eastern Europe map to leave enough room to download the SGMYVNPH map (which includes Vietnam). I did this through Garmin Express. When I look at the Map Manager on the watch it says that the SGMYVNPH map is "queued" and when I try to download this over wifi it either crashes after a while or just says "sync failed".

SO... as an experiment I created a little walking course in Hanoi, from my hotel to a lake. I did this in Garmin Connect on my phone and sent it to my watch. If I start a walking activity on my watch and select my Hanoi course it comes up with a map of Hanoi. I can zoom out (very slowly) and see all of Vietnam and move around the area. Am I right in saying that this means the map is there despite the "queued" status in the Map Manager?

I know the "queued" status is unhelpful but at least the maps work....
