Yes. It just pushes in. There's no detent as such, the cable just pushes into the socket on the watch.

Yes, the cable should click when plugged in. It clicks for the first few charges when the cable is new. 

The problem is that they used a soft metal for the locking clasp inside the watch-side plug on the cable, and it easily bends and loosens, causing the plug not to click when plugging in and coming off REALLY easily. 

The fix is to take a pair of needle-nose pliers and realign the parts highlighted in the picture below, just gently squeeze them SLIGHTLY inwards with the pliers and it will click again and ensure a snug connection to the watch.

It will eventually loosen again and require another adjustment.

Its a shame that they didn't solve this issue for years, was the same with my Garmin vivoactive 3. Can't understand that they don't use a string magnet or even wireless charging.

One of my gripes about the watch is the charging cable. It's too easy for it to get dirty and prevent good connection. I really do wish Garmin would come up with something better. Either like on the Marq watch or back to a clip like on older watches.

My Epix is only a few months old - from the beginning I've had problems with the charging cable staying engaged. I have to be careful when charging - even the slightest movement breaks the connection. For the price I paid, I'd expect Garmin to have a more robust connector. The watch and cable have not been exposed to any abnormal stresses.

Great post. I'll echo sentiments here that they need to modernize to a wireless system. Charging pad is where it's at. C'mon Garmin you can do it!
