Slow to connect to PC (over 3 min)

My watch (epix pro 51) is so slow to connect to my pc. It allways take over 3:15 min after connecting to be able to vew the files on the watch. Even though I connect to my pc several times a week to offload my activity files, I've lived with it.

When I today did a factory reset (for another reason), I tested to connect it a couple of times before applying my backup, the result was 30 sek every time.

After restore of the backup, I was back at 3:15 min. What in the config is slowing the mtp connection to be this slow?

What connection time to pc do you have?

  • I have a First Avenger that connects to the PC right away. I also have a Epix Gen 2 that takes a very long to connect to the PC. Have to connect and disconnect, wait and play with Express to get it to connect. Both on my PC and laptop.

  • My Epix Pro 51 needs 45 sec. to connect to my Win pc.

  • Hello

When you connect the watch to a computer, it is reading the contents of the files and Sw. So every activity stored, goals, logs. When you factory reset the watch, this purges all of this data. This would cause the watch to be read and detected much more quickly. When you restore the back up, you are replacing all of the data that was taking a long time to be read.

So long as the watch is eventually connecting to the computer, there is no problem with using it as is. However, this could be an indicator that your watch storage is getting fairly. It is possible to purge some of this data without losing your personalization settings.

    1. Connect the watch to a windows computer
    2. Open the watch drive, once detected
    3. Open the Garmin folder
    4. You can delete the contents of these files: Activities, Courses, Workouts, Locations, Remotes SW, and New Files
    5. Then disconnect the watch from the computer

Once you have removed these, I would also recommend completing a hard reset. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.
