Epix 2 - how to disable nap detection

I can see that this is a long term problem. But I really would like to know how to disable nap detection?

I NEVER take a nap, but my Epix 2 tells me once or twice every day, that I have been napping. Of course I can delete these naps, but it seems that they still influences eg recommended sleep time.

  • Second this! Please allow us to disable nap detection

  • Try with making your sleep schedule going from midnight to midnight.

  • It was requested mamy times but requests were ignored. I also would like to disable unreliable feature such as nap tracking.

  • Well, I must say I'm surprised that Garmin think it's cool with a feature that does not work after more than a year, especially because it is a feature that ruins credibility of a lot of core functions like training readiness, recommended sleep time etc. It would be so easy for Garmin to let users disable nap detection.

I feel fooled as the nap detection was not a feature back when I bought the Epix 2. I hope potential buyers see this before making their decision.

  • Yet for others nap detection works just fine. Rest periods detected as naps are not necessarily a problem for the overall statistics anyway as they contribute positively to the recovery metrics. The only time it could be a problem is when a nap becomes sleep (determined to be over 3hrs) at which point a new sleep cycle is recorded and that can be determined to be poor.

  • Oh I do not question that nap detection might work for some people. But I can see from this forum, that I'm not the only one constantly experiencing false detections. After more than a year with this problem I guess Garmin will not able to fix it. And why detect a nap if it has no influence regarding eg training readiness? Also my sleep recommendation explicit mentions my  (false) naps.

Anyway I still think that it would be easy for Garmin to make it possible to disable nap detections. But what do I know about this. I'm not a software programmer......

  • Low stress periods were already recorded with the stress and body battery feature but people asked to get the nap function too and we got it.

Now, instead of recharging simply the body battery you have also some extra info of that period that is called "Nap", in certain situations.

I don't want to disagree on your request but it's, probably, one of those stuff that works for majority of people and not for others and it's normal that you see people complaining because it's rare to see people opening discussions to say that something is working as it should.

I'm curious to know if you tried to set the sleep schedule from midnight to midnight and if it has any effect.

  • Thanks. I only made this post to let someone tell me how to turn off nap detection. And I'm surprised that it is not possible.

If I set the sleep schedule from midnight to midnight I guess this will influence watch face, display, touch, do not disturb and battery saving. Or am I missing something?

  • I have my sleep schedule always longer than what I really sleep because it should help to not interrupt the sleep recording if I wake up and come back to sleep after 10-15 minutes.

In that case, I just exit the sleep schedule with start/stop button and everything stays normal until the evening, when the sleep schedule starts again.

In the case of a sleep schedule for 24 hours, I guess, you need to start and stop it manually instead of just stopping it.

To start/end the sleep schedule you can add a shortcut with the buttons so it's not something annoying to do.

  • Pretty much do the sae thing. I do find if I wake early/later or sleep ear;y/later than the times set in the schedule that the watch accommodates that very well. Granted probably at most an hour either way but it still works. I also get the occasional nap wrongly detected when I have my feet up reading but it's rare. And besides as noted:

Low stress periods were already recorded with the stress and body battery feature but people asked to get the nap function too and we got it.
