I'm getting a voice prompt for navigation turns on my iPhone, and I don't know how to turn if off!

Grateful for any help you can offer.

I am using an Epix 2 pro 51mm (v17.23).

In my settings, all audio prompts are set to off. When I am running a course, I get voice notifications on my iPhone for upcoming turns. I only want the vibrate/turn symbol on my watch, and not a voice speaking to me.

Thanks!

  • It's a shame there are no plans to change this since you broke something that was working very well. What's the problem with giving users the ability to choose settings?

  • Please add me to the list of people who would like the option to turn this off.

I listen to podcasts while running and would like the option to see turns on my watch, but not interrupt my podcast.

It was working last autumn, and this ability is one of the reasons I went for the Epix 2. You've broken the functionality by not giving us the option to turn off the audio prompts.

It doesn't hold water to say this is by design. It's bad design. No one complained when it was optional.

  • Hi all. I've been quite frustrated with this issue, as I couldn't find a way to turn off the voice prompts while running a course and then found this thread, which meant I stopped trying to turn them off as I figured it wasn't possible.

However, earlier this week I gave it another go and was able to run without turn voice prompts on my Epix 2. The key was I had to do it while I was tracking a course activity.

Can someone try this to see if it works for them on other watches? I don't know if something changed, or if the Gamin representatives here just didn't understand the question or know the answer. (Or perhaps I've misunderstood the issue you've been discussing - perfectly possible!)

What I did (buttons specific to Epix 2, some of it may be due to my set up so your buttons may vary)
    - Get to the run screen (top right button twice, then dismiss the suggested run with bottom right button)
    - Go to Navigate (middle left button, then down using bottom left button, then select with top right button)
    - Select a course (no specific buttons here)
    - Select Do course
    - Start a run (top right)
    - Go to options menu (hold middle left)
    - Select Navigation Settings
    - Go down and select Alerts
    - Go down and turn Turn Prompts off
    - Go back a few times (bottom right) to get back to your activity.

You should only need to do this once, and navigation audio prompts will then be off.

  • This turns off all notifications. The problem is that no one wants voice notifications, but everyone wants notifications on the watch.

  • I still got notifications of when to turn on my watch, or at least it would show me where to turn. Sounds like I'm not familiar with the non-voice notifications. I think I see what you mean though.

  • How can I add myself to the list the engineers are collecting examples of this “experience issue”?

My experience is that this has broken something that didn’t need fixing in the first place. Please reintroduce a way to have watch based navigation notifications without the audio voice directions.

  • Hello. Our engineers are curious whether you are still experiencing this? There have not recently been many reports around this experience concern. And they have not been able to reproduce this recently internally.

  • Yes Laurie. It’s absolutely still happening when connected to Bluetooth headphones. I really don’t understand how this is still being questioned by the engineers as a problem. On other forum threads it’s been admitted as a known problem.

Im desperate to find a way to stop this. Navigation prompts need to be separate to Audio Navigation Prompts. PLEASE.

  • For me, the problem was gone at some point. Following the settings worked as they were supposed to. Fenix 7 Solar.
