ENGO sunglasses bricked by latest FW

Hi all,

Since Upgrading to 17.23 all 3 pairs of my Engo smartglasses have not been working. The display just freezes and doesnt update the HR, pace, time or any other data, assuming it displays them at all.  Anyone else encounter this?

because they use a bluetooth connection to display the data i wonder if something changed in the bluetooth stack to brick these glasses.

also contacting engo for their take.

thanks for any insights or advice you can provide? How do i restore to 16.22?

  • Did you update the data field on the watch and the firmware version on the glasses?

  • Yep.  Both up to date.  Heard from ENGO on another forum and they said they are aware of the issue, but no ETA on a fix as yet...

  • Me too.

There is the same problem between my ENGO2 and my tactix AMOLED 17.23 though there was no problem on 16.22.
One update per 5-60 seconds can be seen on my ENGO2.
The real time data cannot be seen.

The ENGO2 customer service said that we suspect the issue to be due to an overload of the Bluetooth system on Garmin side.

For your information, there is no problem between my Edge840 and ENGO2.

I hope I can see the real time data on my ENGO2.

  • I can confirm that the latest Garmin Firmware did NOT fix the issue. n 17.28 my ENGO glasses still freeze and do not update.  I emailed ENGO about it, but no response as yet.

  • Download and install the "Alook Beta" datafield from the Garmin aftrer removing the current "ActiveLook"

    Connect IQ store: apps.garmin.com/.../ec2286a1-9427-4f0d-bb0e-c929cac59cd7

The beta seems to fix the data refresh issue.

  • Just did that.  Doesn't fix the issue for me.  The data does refresh, but it does so at varying intermittent times and is nothing like it was the. I first got the glasses....perhaps more work needed to fully address the problem....it's still too glitchy to be usable.  Sorry.

  • For me, Heart Rate, Pace, and Elapsed time seem to be OK.
Lap Elapsed time and Distance are sometimes a little bit delayed.
    Lap distance is significantly delayed.
I look forward to the next update.

  • Tried the new beta data field that ENGO released. Some fields update intermittently (pace, cadence, heart rate) some don’t update at all or very infrequently (elapsed time, distance). Seems like it’s still broken.  This is so odd. The whole system operates on Bluetooth. Hardly a new technology. I imagine the glasses poll the watch for the date and the watch sends over the data via Bluetooth. Why is this hard to fix?

would setting the watch to broadcast HR help? Would downgrading the firmware?  Engo is a garmin developer so not sure why the two parties can’t figure this out.

I reported the above to ENGO and they responded saying that “Unfortunatly it seems that the bluetooth from Garmin is not working as it was so we have to deeply modify our code. At least we now have some update on the metrics. The next release is aimed at retrieving a smoother experience.”

weird that this would be an issue this far along

  • UPDATE.  Have been sent a 4th pair of glasses by ENGO 2 Glasses (thank you!) but unfortunately...they are still not working.  This seems to confirm that this is a software issue not hardware related.  Neither the ActiveLook beta data field nor the general release of the ActiveLook Data field generally released. Not sure what's going on....Why is a device that worked perfectly before totally now a random number generator?  Not sure what to do...

  • The latest ALook DataField Beta Test Ver.1.0.44 has finally been OK for my tactix AMOLED.
