No strokes statistics for open water swimming

Hi, I'm a relatively new Garmin user. I've been to open water twice this year and both activities lack strokes statistics. In both cases, I see the statistics that I made 0 moves, which is obviously impossible when swimming freestyle.

The problem occurred on two stable versions of the software: 17.20 and 17.23.

Interestingly, for swimming in the pool, the watch has no problems detecting the number of strokes, so it is not a problem with the accelerometer or gyroscope.

Do you also have this problem? Did you manage to solve it?

haven't tried on 17.xx - but then 17.xx has a lot of issue (way more than it fixed).

Does the wrist setting match which wirst you have set the watch on.

If so you could try an activity restore (go into the activity settings - should be last option) - note it will wipe out your activity settings and any customization of data screens etc so make sure you make a note if you want to replicate (I just go into the data screens using the app and take a screenshot). I had a whole lot of gps activities corrupted by the 17.xx update and this is the only way I have been able to fix them.

Thanks for the answer, so the wrist settings agree with reality. As I have already mentioned, I do not have this problem in swimming in the pool, the strokes are calculated correctly.

Recently (after updating the watch to version 17.20) I reset all activities (somewhere in the "development" settings), but I will try to reset the single "Open Water" activity again.

I will also report it to Garmin's support, because it looks like another software bug that should be fixed.

17.23 broke OW stroke count for me, intermittently failing in pool.

And reported the problem to Garmin Support. The more reports, the more likely the problem will be fixed

I have exactly the same issue: Fenix 7 soft. 17.23. Moreover, distance measurment is very inaccurate Sometimes it provides distance two times larger than in reality.

FWIW I’ve had no problems in open water or pool with 17.xx. Now on 18.10b and no problems. Might be worth trying the beta.

I'm aware the response above is a few weeks old but only issues with beta software should be reported in the beta forums. Once the software leaves beta it’s unlikely that Garmin will monitor the beta forums for that release. If there are problems with publicly available software by all means report them here but ensure Garmin Support is contacted directly.

As @philipshambrook said: if you have this problem please contact Garmin support. The more erroneous activities developers have to analyze, the greater the chance that the problem will be fixed in one of the future updates

It is quite strange as in some open water activities strokes are measured but in the last it didn't record even a single stroke.

It's the same for me.. Some open water swimming activities had strokes and others didn't.

All hope is in the people responsible for the software at Garmin. Reporting more cases like this by more people might help them solve the problems :)

This happened to me as well a few weeks ago. I'm have 17.28 on Epix 2 non-pro. I did three open water swims. First one recorded strokes and distance. About an hour later I did a second swim and it recorded distance but no strokes. Third swim the next day recorded both distance and strokes. I didn't do anything different when starting swims. Pool swimming seems to count strokes accurately every time.
