Audio prompts not working on Garmin coach software ver. 17.20

First of all I like to say that I like the new audio prompts where it is more descriptive on lap paces and next steps in the training.

I'm currently halfway through a Garmin coach 10km workout. I typically listen to Spotify via phone and the audio prompts will be linked to my phone and then send over to the Headphonesheadphones. The following is what's been happening the past 4 days,

Monday. Running with new software ver 17.20. Audio prompts stopped working after about 15 mins. Later in the evening started a strength training workout and Garmin audio prompts started voicing out all steps done on the earlier run. Went on non stop for about a minute

Tue. Same thing happened on a Garmin coach run. At the end of an hour run the Epix gen2 did a soft reset on it's own. Still recorded my total run but all the lap paces info is not recorded.

Wed. Decided not to use Garmin coach and went for normal run. Audio prompts seem to be working fine.

Thu. Did speed repeat on Garmin coach. After about 15 minutes audio prompts don't work anymore

  • I use Garmin coach too, however I do not share your experience. All seems to be working fine.

Did you already reboot your watch?

  • Looks like I'm the odd one out. Yes I did reboot twice

  • Do you ever use courses for running? If so, do the audio hints work? I am missing those, used to work in the past..

  • No I don't use courses for running.

  • Just a follow up that today I did a long run 5 min warmup 50 min + 30 min easy run + 5 min cool down while playing Spotify via phone and I had no issues

  • Another follow up after updating to 17.23. Audio prompts still stop working halfway through stride repeats on Garmin coach

  • Thanks. Not a deal breaker for me. Just got to manage it for now. If going for long consistent runs then I don't care. If doing intervals, not listening to Spotify via phone seems to do the trick

  • What phone are you using? I am having massive problems with two different phones running different versions of Android (12 on a Motorola and 14 on a Samsung) - to the extent that tonight I had to turn off the Blueooth on the watch completely because it was crashing the phones so hard I had to re-pair them. This is with turn prompts on a course, rather than coach prompts, but similar problem, that the enhanced audio prompts are really sketchy. I did once actually try going for a walk with an ipad in my rucksack, similar setup listening to Audible and getting prompts, and that worked perfectly. With Android different phones, different earphones, using a Fenix 7 instead of the Epix, every combination I have tried fails.Historically the lap announcements have always been fine, but even that seems to be a bit of a problem now.

ETA: the earphone crash is a specific issue with Earfun Air Pro 3 + Galaxy A55 + AptX. The problem of the course announcements stopping working and taking down lap messsages as well is not; it happens with that phone/earphone combination running stably with  AAC, with Shokz, with Sennheisers, and with all of the above on Motorola Edge 20 lite.

  • This just happened to me today in a Garmin coach workout with a Forerunner 265. Everything is running from my Android phone (Pixel 8 Pro running Android 14). On my phone is Garmin Connect and Spotify playing audio. Partway into the workout I'd only get haptics alerts but not audio. Suddenly about halfway through the workout all the prompts started playing in order as if they were "catching up". It didn't stop the audio in Spotify like it normally does when interrupting, but it did lower the volume on the Spotify audio. After all the audio prompts finally played all the way through they started working normally at the right times.
