Pairing Polar H10 with Garmin Epix

I'm looking into buying a Polar H10 to pair with my Epix. I would buy the Garmin HRM Pro but the fact that the whole device needs replacement if the strap fails in any way (and for what I read it is a common issue) is a deal-breaker for me. Why Garmin made this very poor and impractical design decision escapes my imagination.

The point is I'm going for the H10 but here are my questions. With the readings the watch picks up from the H10, will the returning results of an activity remain the same?

E.g, after I finish a run, will I get the same amount of data that I get using the optical HR of the watch? If not, what am I getting and what would I be giving up? would my Vo2 Max, HRV etc still be calculated and presented in the results in Garmin Connect?

Thanks!
