Seconds disappearing from watch face

Hello,

I was directed here by Reddit - apologies if anyone already saw my question there.

I've recently started wearing an Epix Pro Gen 2, which is my first Garmin or indeed smartwatch of any description. My watch for the last decade until a week ago was a Casio F91.

Starting yesterday, I noticed that the seconds on the watch face disappeared. There's a blank space where they should be. I checked on the watch face settings and seconds are definitely still turned on. Strangely though when red shift came on in the evening the seconds re-appeared.

Today the same thing happened, seconds disappeared but when I manually turned on red shift they re-appeared again. How can I fix this? I want the seconds visible (it's useful for work) but don't want to have to keep the watch permanently in red shift mode.

The display is on gesture mode, not always-on, and I'm using a watch face format that was preloaded on the watch, not a downloaded one. The watch is fully up-tp-date with updates as far as I can tell.

As I say I'm very new to Garmin so if there's any other information I can give that would help then please let me know.

Do they come back when you raise your arm?

No, unless I'm in red shift there is simply a blank space where the seconds ought to be. When I raise my arm the watch face (other than seconds) does come up, so gesture mode is working correctly, but no seconds.

If it's a stock watch face please post a picture of it.

If it's a 3rd party watch face, remove it and see if the same thing happens with a stock watch face.

First of all, I apologise for the poor quality photos.

So on the normal colouration you can see the blank space on the right where the seconds ought to be.

But then in red shift the seconds are back.

I have tested on our end and I can see the seconds but 'very very briefly' then they are taken away for that specific watch face you are using. When using Red Shift, the seconds remain. From what I can see, it is normal behavior and should be expected.

I switched to the same watch face with seconds selected and AOD set to off in the Display settings - Settings, System, Display, General Use, AOD off. I don't have any problems with the seconds disappearing and not reappearing. With AOD set to Off for general use, the screen goes black before the disappearance of the seconds can be observed. The seconds are there when a gesture or touch activates the screen

I'd tested this earlier before changing the data to the same as your. The first image shows the seconds and the second images shows the seconds have disappeared. At this point the display has gone into a low power mode to conserve battery and screen. However, a gesture or touch of the screen is sufficient to restore the seconds.

Thank you to everyone who replied, it's all been very helpful.

Particularly to philipshambrook - one thing I noticed in the picture you posted was that the accent colour on the watch face was red where on mine it was white. I changed the accent colour and hey presto, it now seems to work and the seconds are no longer disappearing, although I suppose I'll have to see if that lasts or if the same issue recurs.

I can’t reproduce the problem with white so can’t help there.
