VO2 max and lifestyle

Just a simple question that I can't seem to figure out the answer to...

My wife and I are both 54 years old. I run on the treadmill every other day and average 5 miles per run (mixture of base/tempo/anaerobic) and have a VO2 max of 41 currently, which is 'good' according to Garmin.

My wife does zero exercise and has a VO2 max of 38, which is excellent and knocking on athlete.

I'm feeling hard done by, help me Slight smile

  • My wife does zero exercise and has a VO2 max of 38

If she does no running (and I assume no cycling with a powermeter either), then the VO₂max estimate comes from the all-day HR, or perhaps…

  • Garmin VO2max even if measured by running is only about 5% accurate,

To be clear, it's accurate to within 5% or so of a proper test, which makes it around 95% accurate.
