Heart Rate Sensor Green LEDs Dim

Has anyone ever had their EPIX green HR sensor LED's operate in a really dim state all the time? My son recently got a forerunner 255, and when I was checking it out, I couldn't help but notice how bright the green LED's were. The EPIX were incredibly dim in comparison. I rebooted the EPIX and now they are nice and bright again--strange.

Anyways...curious if others have encountered this before?

If they recognize your pulse they will dim to a lower state. In 24/7 there are even only 2 LEDs out of 6 used.

In sport mode all 6 will operate, also in a brighter state. Doesn't change if I reboot the watch. This seems to be

the normal behavior.

Yes, this is completely normal. In 24/7 monitoring, the LED's opertate in a low power mode, and are dimmer. When you start an activity, or open up the HR widget, it will switch to a higher power mode for greater accuracy (especially at higher heart rates). The ELD's will get brighter, and will switch from strobing to solid.

I’m aware of the low power mode vs high. This was not that. Side by side with a 255, which has the same sensor, the LEDs in every mode were dimmer than the 255–I’m talking faintly visible. Once rebooted, they matched the intensity of the 255

I noticed the same thing with my G2 EPIX today, as I was trying to understand what felt like laggy behaviour on an exercise. Reboot made them bright again...
