Garmin Pay - can't add a card

Just bought an Epix (Gen 2) 47mm to replace my Fenix 6 Pro. Everything is going well until I try to add a card to Garmin Pay. 

The card works find on the Fenix 6 Pro. I have tried both the (hamburger)->Garmin Pay and the device -> Garmin Pay routes and always get "card was declined". 

Have tried adding the same card from the number and failed.

Have tried adding a virtual card for that card - from the same bank! - and get "bank is not supported".

Most frustrating. I have reset cache and application data on Garmin Connect, running 4.73.4; the watch spent the morning loading software updates and is on 15.77 ...

  • Maybe your bank is no longer supported, where it was when you had your F6.  Check this:  https://www.garmin.com/en-US/garminpay/banks/  If it is supported, call garmin support and they will assist you in solving this.

  • I had this happen in a new watch but it turned out that I'd been issued but not yet recorded a new card with updated security code. The bank wasn't preventing the old watch from using it but wouldn't validate the new one. New card arrived and I entered it painlessly

  • Thanks - I thought of that, because I had that happen, I got a new card with a new code.

    I tried the old code and the new.code, but neither worked.

    I added a different card from a different bank (Chase) and that worked.

    So I deleted the old card (from Capitol One) and tried to add it from scratch. No joy, but many confusing messages, including "we can't reach our servers"! 

    I'll try again tomorrow. 

    This process could be smoother!

  • I have the same problem. I have a Tactix 7 Amoled and I can't add a bank card. They are reporting the same issues and it worked before. I tried hard restarting the watch and nothing helped. The bank says it's Garmin's fault...

  • Have you looked at the list of supported banks at https://www.garmin.com/en-US/garminpay/banks/ ? I just checked it and don't see Capital One - possible they've stopped supporting Garmin Pay. FWIW - I tried adding my Capital One card and it failed as well so it probably no longer supported

  • Well, that's fascinating! The card was working great on my F6. And when I try to add it, I get a terms and conditions click through. So one hand doesn't know about the other ... but maybe this is the root of the problem. I'll try to dig a little farther, thanks.

  • I had spoken to a Capital One support agent/manager earlier today, and she claims that Capital One still partners with Garmin. I explained to her just about every detail and every step taken throughout the inquiry, and all she could tell me was contact Garmin. Which we already know where they stand on the matter so I didn't bother going that route. I'm of the opinion that Cap One only said that so I wouldn't close my account as others have. Seriously, you pay 15 hundred bucks for a smartwatch, you want to use every feature coming to you, especially Garmin Pay.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

  • There are ways around this apparently according the DCR.

    It's definitely worth an internet/YouTube search.

    I think it may involve using a third party banking/wallet app

  • Man, that's just stupid.

    I don't understand why Garmin would shoot themselves in the foot this way. (Also, not supporting the Paris ticket system ... just in time for the Olympics.)
