Feature request (Epix Pro 47 mm): Turn off notifications when watch is not being worn

Hello everyone,

I wanted to suggest a feature to turn off notifications on the watch when is not being worn. I don't use my watch when I sleep and notifications received on my phone and being sent to my watch makes it vibrate. Due to the design of the watch, these vibrations transfer to the surface of my bedside table and makes a loud sound and it is driving. me. nuts.

I think a very simple feature that would solve this would be an option to turn off notifications when the watch is not worn. I believe with the watch sensors this would be very simple to implement.

Thanks

  • ...or you can simply put your watch into Do Not Disturb mode when you take it off.

  • Unfortunately, it might not be that simple. Garmin watches, or at least the Epix and Fenix, seem to have problems identifying if they are worn or not. When placing the watch on a wooden or textile surface, it sometimes registers a heart rate.

This has been discussed before: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/epix-2/329097/my-blanket-has-a-hr-of-70

I, too, hope that Garmin will address these issues. If the watch is not worn, it should "know" and adjust sensors and notifications accordingly automatically, without having to take extra steps.

I'm not sure that's strictly true. If you have Garmin Wallet enabled [EpixPro 47mm] and it's removed from your wrist for any reason, it never fails to ask for your passcode again before being able to make a purchase. If that's the case it should be easy enough to invoke Do Not Disturb when it's not worn, or for that matter, instruct the watch not to try to measure a non-existent heart rate..

  • That's a nice idea. When I put my watch on a surface, I place the metal part above the rubber band so it does not make the vibrating noise when a notification comes in.

Just as the Epix screen turns off when I take it off my wrist (I'm using AOD) it would be great if it could switch to DND and go back as normal when worn.

  • ...and what about those who would prefer to continue receiving notifications when they take their watch off?

  • Samsung and Google both allow them to be turned on or off. If the function was implemented I would imagine that Garmin would give users the choice.

  • This morning I genuinely wanted to smash your damn watch — Epix Pro Gen 2! Can your developers seriously not add this feature in an update? It’s enough to read data from the accelerometer and stop vibrating if the watch hasn’t moved for more than 5 minutes. How disconnected do you have to be to ignore clear requests from the community? Ask me now if I’d recommend Garmin products to my friends. You already know the answer!
